San Antonio has an extremely annoying highway system. Went to school there for 4 years and I hated anytime I had to drive around on the highways.

Driving in SA is f***ing awful. They treat all Yield signs as STOP signs no matter the situation. They were never taught that they could use their mirrors while still in motion. They were also apparently taught that the cars entering the freeway must yield no matter the situation. Therefore, they hit the brakes when entering the freeway.

I don't know how I survived without an accident in the short time I lived there. So many near misses. And I got flipped off more times than I can count for not coming to a complete stop when yielding...not by a car coming off the freeway, but by other cars on the feeder road who thought I was being rude by not stopping.

DON'T EVEN get me started!!! ARGH!!!

I think here in Texas people purposely drive slow in the fast lane just to piss people off. The only time I pull something like that is if I'm already going ten miles over the speed limit in the fast lane and someone comes up behind me going ten mph or more than I'm going...to where I think it's better for him to just zoom around me because I may try to get out of the way and he may try to get over and hit me at the same time he is going so fast. Or, she. The women are the ones who drive bat-sh_t crazy a lot of the times from what I see. And, they love to tail-gate because most people won't road rage against a woman...unless it's another woman.

The one exception is just old people who don't know any better. I give them a pass cause they started driving in 1940 or something. lol

But, any time a car is coming up slowly behind me, I politely get out of the fast lane and let them go by. If they are maniacally coming up behind me, then I stay put and let them go around.

I have been studying the kind of people that I find in the left lane.

    1. mostly blacks since a lot of them have outstanding warrants, or some other issue and speeding can bring unwanted attention.
    2. mexicans, probably do not have papers...same scenario as the blacks.
    3. asians - speed limit in japan is like 50mph...enough said.
    4. whites in an old pickup or something than barely runs. need to be closer to the shoulder in case of an emergency.
    5. women of any race doing makeup, on the cell etc.

I find it uber-annoying as well, but this whole fascination of treating these machines so non-chalantly so we can get to our destination three minutes faster has become amusing to me.

It really cracks me watching some ****chop weave in and out of traffic, only to catch up with him at the next light (I know not entirely appropriate to this specific issue).

This makes zero sense since Highway patrol and HPD usually target the left lane with their lazers for speeding. Why would they want to be in the trap lane? If I go fast, I always know to stay in the middle lane as they rarely target you there. (That's coming from a cop friend of mine. Left lane is easy pickings, while trying to hit cars from middle are far lanes are just too much work.)

Thanks for the advice. I will no longer speed in the left lane now.

Yea...I can understand wanting to drive unimpeded in the fast lane without having to slow behind someone...but those people you describe are the real works of ass weave art. There is always someone doing it during rush hour...like they are going to get to their destination faster than everyone else. Then, they end up stuck at the same light you are just driving regularly. It is pretty comical.

i said they two groups usually go slow.

I like to avg 70-75mph on the highway, and I def. keep it under 80mph. If someone wants to go faster than 75, i gladly move over so they can save me from a ticket. :p

with lasers, all lanes are easy to target.

It's comical in the city, but asshats on the freeway who take up all 4 lanes going the same speed deserve to be weaved through.

We already have this law in Texas, but it's rarely enforced. The fast lane should be only for passing like in certain Western European countries. However, I'm not advocating that people drive like jerks either.

This law doesn't work in real life. On I-10 West from 610 till Highway 6, the speed limit is 60 mph. Obviously most don't drive this slow. In the fast lane, most people average 75-80 mph. A law abiding driver can drive at 60 mph in the 'fast lane', and still produce the same effect as someone driving 10 mph slower than the legal speed limit.

We need to increase the speed limit to 80 mph in the fast lanes inside the Greater Houston Area. Anyone going faster than 80 inside this area should get a speeding ticket through speed cameras. Anyone going slower than 80 will also get ticketed through the cameras.

Don't get me started on 18-wheelers in the fast lane.

Well, the speed limit is 65. In theory, even the speed in the fastest lane should be capped by that. Here in CA, people are not suppose to be in the left most lane if not driving close to 80. So what's the point of speed limit?

    Beautiful.

    Every state should enforce this.

But if you ask those slow moving left lane squatters, they will tell you they are simply following the speed limit law. You see.

I think some do that so they are not blocking entrance ramps (making it difficult to get on).
