they evolved to survive by being really damn cute so us silly humans go "awwww" and want to save and take care of them
Stuff like this really grinds my gears.People throughout the world are starving, living in poverty, have no access to proper medical treatment and have no hope financially but yet their are interests groups who have billions to keep the panda alive.
Not going to lie, but unless you regularly donate your salary to help those other billions of people, seems slightly unfair for you to say 'Those people with billions should help out the poor' if you don't do it yourself.
Now, if we grind him into a powder do you think the Pandas will use him as powdered milk or some coke snortskies?
Only in america. You wonder why the government treats us like animals. They do it because people are blind to what is really going on. I say that 5 billion is just too much for the freaking panda, many other issues should take priority. Its controversial, its not politically correct to be honest. BTW no way in hell that all of that money is really going to the pandas, just another charity scam. Open up your eyes almost all of these so called charities give 25 percent to the cause and pocket the other 75 percent.
Number one how do you know that I'm not poor myself? Not everybody in america has enough money to be able to give to charity. So if I'm not well off enough to donate money, I should just shut up? You do realize their is a worldwide economic crisis going on. Most regular people don't have money laying around to donate.
I thought you were not serious, but ... Look we as humans care, love, and preserve. This is not about cost benefit analysis or a choice between saving 1 panda v. 1 person with the last resource available only enough to save one. We spend on a lot of things that in your view may be vanities. But to most people, panda touch their hearts and saving pandas make them feel good. These people may also very likely care about the poor kids in Africa as well. A world that functions strictly in your utilitarian way will be very strange and dangerous. In that world, people will soon start asking why saving a kid in Africa.
In general, I think the planet needs as much biodiversity as it can get, but given that we're already undergoing a mass extinction and given that these animals would probably go extinct without human intervention (they are just so dumb and slow), I don't think it's a good place for humans to put resources. Let 'em die out. Now, if you can cross-breed a panda with a polar bear or grizzly, that might be a good and worthy way to keep some of their genetic material. Imagine that resulting animal. "Oh, cute, am I? I CLAW YOUR FACE!"
