Morey's mention of international players today in the presser was interesting. Anyone follow the Euro leagues closely enough to know if there are any intriguing prospects that may be added before season's end? I'm thinking Lull is still not coming over for a year or two at minimum, right?
Good question, and solid thread. I am very interested to see what guys they are targeting overseas right now.
Maybe not both "Euro-league" players necessarily but I would have to think Bo McCalebb(Turkey), or Andrew Goudelock(RGV) would be candidates to fill the backup or 3rd string PG opening short term. Goudelock is more of a scoring guard, but should be more than capable of handling the point in the Rockets system. If they are looking for rebounding it would be hilarious if they brought back.... wait for it.... wait for it....Joey Dorsey(Greece). Also dont forget about Donte Greene who is coming back from injury. Wouldn't be a terrible pickup either.
He was probably talking about Furkan Aldemir, the guy we bought in the second round of the draft this year. Apparently he's been balling over in Turkey recently. But even after the Trob trade, I still don't think there is much room for him on the depth chart even if he wants to come to the NBA.
He has Furkan buy out issues with his team which will keep him out of the NBA for a few more years most likely. He is said to be Furkan killing it over in Europe this year though. Should be a good player to bring over or use in a trade in 2 or 3 seasons.
Mccalebb looks interesting...mostly because he looks like he could shoot a bit next to harden/Lin....but he just signed a 3 yr deal 6 months ago, so I would imagine the buyout may be difficult at this point...
did Ray Lewis with a basketball play with Beverley over in Greece? Goudelock is the mini Mamba a chucker Donte Greene should be fine
No, Beverley played with some Russian team. My guess is the player they pull over will be a PG so Id say McCalebb would be my #1 guess.
We really need a backup 7 foot center. Why not give the cash to Hassan Whiteside with an agreement that he re-signs next season to a minimum 2-yr contract with team options after the first year?
That is.. give Whiteside all the cap money left in exchange for his agreement to sign a 4-yr contract at a minimum salary with team option after the first season.
Time and time again. Hell no to Whiteside, if you said Olbrecht I would applaud you. Whiteside is a ton of what ifs, and 0 what is.
Obviously we need to get you some tape of RGV games. Whiteside does not help this team at all in the areas you would think the center position would bring you. Thomas Robinson, Jones, and even Royce White PLAY BIGGER than Whiteside despite his size length, and shot blocking ability. He's still very raw, and weak. Unfortunately its probably just about too late for any NBA to take a risk with gambling a roster spot for him, when they can just let him sit in the D-League or wash out instead.
He's going to get the minimum anyway. The problem with the upfront cash + long deal is the motivation to improve/play hard more go after the cash is received
A third option PG in either Matt Janning or Jon Diebler whose draft rights the Rockets hold? If the Rockets S&T and/or sign outright for both Smith and Howard they won't get the MLE to fill out the roster. They've got $5M of cap room now which is around the MLE. So maybe they're looking to spend that after the season but before June 30th? Is that possible?
