Well, we could do a multiple city thing like the World Cup back in 1994 -- have the games in Houston, Austin, and maybe San Antonio if necessary. I wonder if we could do a straight up Texas bid -- Houston, Austin, San Antonio, and Dallas.
The WC is always in multiple cities (sometimes neighboring countries) Olympics is different. They want all the main events in one city.
why is everyone so negative about a few wk event that is 11 years from now? i dont see any negatives including traffic (jeez why would you even consider this) bring it on.. houston is gonna explode
Before the Olympic's Atlanta wasn't "Atlanta". Their downtown was dead (sound familiar), their rail line wasn't as expansive, and they had completely different liquor laws (didn't become a party destination until that changed). http://clatl.com/atlanta/atlantas-olympic-legacy/Content?oid=5849123
so if Houston now is greater than Atlanta and Atlanta is now "Atlanta" (not saying too much but its a nice city) imagine the possibilities here
Yeah, no. Don't compare the two. Austin? SRSLY!?!?! LOL! World Cup is always a COUNTRY, Olympics is always a CITY (aside from when they had lots of soccer games in Scotland and other cities hosted a bunch of other events). Spoiler Granted, the Houston Metropolitan area is a much larger and vast land than London is (was for 2012). I'd say go for it.
Believe me, if the Olympic committee returned here to check things out, our delegation would plan everything for them between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. and then again at night after 7:00. It's just one of those things. We don't have natural beauty (Rio) or history (Athens) or whatever to overcome some infrastructure problems. Believe me, I'd love the Olympics here. It would force Houston to finally get some much-needed plastic surgery. Otherwise, I'll just content myself with Houston being that slightly-overweight, got-a-few-too-many-tats, but-who-am-I-to-judge-I'd-hit-it woman sitting outside of Starbucks smoking a cigarette.
