Sampson was better at recognizing TD's talents and utilizing them. TD is a great third guard/shooter when he's properly utilized and he had the skills to play alongside Harden or Lin. TD played brilliantly off the bench in December, proving himself to be a clutch player in crunch time, and was shooting great in January when McHale suddenly benched him to "see what we have in Beverley." It clearly hurt Toney's confidence a bit, because he was on a roll (TD was shooting 48% from the field in January) prior to Beverley joining the team. That decision could come back to haunt the Rockets in the playoffs as Beverley has never been a good/shooter scorer (not even in college) and is currently shooting just 37% from the field (after shooting 34% in the D-League) and 32% from 3-point range. Certainly not a guard I'd want on the court in a playoff game.
Always positive and a great teammate. Never talks s*** or throw anyone under the bus. Did whatever was asked of him. I wish him the best.
Feel like he was the heart/soul/fire of this team. Always gave it his all when he was on the court and helped us rally back many times. Went from being a chucker to high percentage 3 point shooter and excellent defender. True professional who never complained about playing time. Will be missed and remembered.
I feel like we should've kept him over Beverley or Anderson. The dude can hit the 3 (which this team goes for every game), he's a pesky defender, do playmaking in a limited role, and like so many people said he can hustle like few others off the bench. He seem like a great guy with a lot of bad luck in his career. I hope he finds a place and thrives.
Agreed. I really liked having both of them as options, but if I had to let one of them go, it would've been Beverly.
I thought he couldn't play last year and at the beginning of this year, but he proved me wrong. He's been a pretty consistent shooter and energy guy off the bench, never complain, always play hard. Best of the luck TD.
Thanks Toney! Kinda pissed when I first heard you were gonna play for us but you changed my mind and I'm gonna miss you!! Sorry it had to be Sacramento!
Although I felt happy for Lin last year in Knicks, I could't stop feeling for Toney. I feel bad for such nice and young person being stuck to the bench. I'm glad he played much better this year. Wish he would make into rotation and have plenty play time in Kings. Do What Toney Douglas Do!
I feel bad for Toney going to a team that already has a cluster**** of PGs (4 of them, 5 if you consider Tyreke to be a pg). Thanks for getting on some hot streaks and nailing 3 pointers and playing some decent defense. No thanks for not passing the ball or running the offense and your questionable shot selection. Best of luck and hope you find yourself in a better situation than Sactown soon
Toney is such a good-natured person. Lin feels terrible about Toney's leaving, so do we. Best wishes to you Toney. You will have a better future because you are a tough and mature young man.
He was a class act. Never complained and always did his best when called upon. And it sucks knowing that he's going to a ****ty team that already has so many PG's, in a contract year to boot.
Toney was one of my favorite Rockets this year. I'm gonna miss him, but I fully support this trade. Good luck, Toney. Hope you escape quickly...or new management in Seattle turns things around. You deserve better.
i feel like these threads are getting out of hand.. make one appreciation thread and speak on the latest rocket to be sent packing.. guys like yao, chuck, and tmac deserved these threads.. aldrich & douglas??.. cmon now lets get real..
