I just bought my wife and I a pair of Nokia phones with windows 8 os. I'm pissed because I can't view videos you guys post on CF, is there a fix for this?
I think you mean the Lumia 820. I have the 920 and need a fix for this too. Svpernaut spoke of an easy fix for it but I've yet to find it. But since you put "Windows" in the title he'll chime in the next time he logs on.
My bad. I'm an idiot. Anyway, let's just keep this thread up until Svpernaut shows up. He should have some advice.
This is Google INTENTIONALLY screwing with Windows Phone users. Long story short, Google knows you're visiting from a Windows Phone and blocks it. Two great and easy options though are... YouTube - Free third party app MetroTube - $.99 but an awesome app EDIT - forgot to mention that if you want to view them inline, you can sign up for HTML5 videos as your preference. http://www.youtube.com/html5 You'll need to make sure you are always logged in your YouTube account on the phone, which you can do from the IE.
Unfortunately sometimes embed videos are a no go directly from the site. I've had this issue from my 920. Most of the time using an app like metroTube, and then looking for Clutch's channel or whatever channel for the video... Also, sometimes changing the settings in internet explorer from mobile to desktop (or vice versa) fixes this. I can't think of anything else. It's stupid google wants to block users from content their phones can handle. It's google being anti-competitve, surprise surprise!
Sounds like an IE issue on WP8 not handling HTML5 properly. Videos work fine on my iPad, so I doubt it's YouTube blocking competitors.
google being childish. lets see how that would go if they blocked iOS devices. WP has like a 3% marketshare..geez..let them have their youtube. not like there's much else going on for WP users.
<P> </P><P> </P><P>Google does a browser check sport and the iPad runs a variant of web kit. Google blocks anything that doesn't run web kit (chrome is also web kit based as well). If you want a point of reference look at when google blocked google maps on wp8 because they could. It took fighting and now google maps works on WP again. Windows phone actually handles html 5 as well if not better than the iPhone. The iPhone beats windows phone in Java. </P>
<P> </P><P> </P><P>They are trying to stop WP from taking blackberry's spot. We have pretty much all the feature apps that iOS and android have. Yeah we are missing some pieces, but we also have a lot of things the others don't, and I don't just mean the live tiles. </P>
