Other GMs can't stop themselves from trading with Morey, because he always manages to give them exactly what they want. Whether they're looking for draft picks, cap savings, young players, expiring deals, whatever... he always puts together the right package for them. It only seems like rape because he manages to get more than anyone expects without ever sacrificing his precious flexibility.

This is it. Morey isn't fleecing anyone. He is studying the market and collecting what other GMs need. Most of these deals are win-win. The other team gets what they wanted. So do the Rockets. That is why teams deal with Morey.

lol, well you're a busy dude so I guess you can't be expected to be on top of all the internet sports commenting trends. Simmons gave Morey that nickname back in 2009 though.

Maybe Morey said that his offer was only good until the phone was hung up. Take this right now, or leave it (knowing that a bidding war would ensue).

"For me, Houston is a massive wild card heading toward the playoffs, especially if they make one more monster move today. Did you see what the Rockets did to Oklahoma City last night? They skewered them! They remind me of one of those Spurs/Nuggets teams from the 1980s — you know they won't win the title, but you'd also want no part of them in a seven-game series"

best part of the article for me when simmons wrote this...haha

I love that line about this looking like a trade from 1978. That pretty much sums it up. While Morey does know how to play the market, the Kings being so screwed up beyond belief is ultimately what made this deal happen.

    I think Petrie just panicked.

When you see that name pop up on your phone it is the only thing you can do. Your mind starts going in circles and you start speaking in tongues.

Next thing you know you have at best a great bench player and just gave up your top 5 pick.

Other GMs now want to trade with Morey. Ego. They want to beat this other godly GM to claim best GM in the business.

Until they get owned later, over and and over again, gets fired, and new GM comes up.

    It's a recursion.

Les needs to lock up Morey for the duration of the Houston Rockets existence.

I don't think I truly realized how badly the Kings did in this deal until this article.

You gotta feel bad for Kings fans.

Simmons: And then some. At what point is someone going to break the news to Warriors fans that they could have had James Harden for Klay Thompson before the season? Should we do it in stages? One at a time? How should we handle this? We might have to do an oral history called "The Last Few Days Before Oklahoma City Traded James Harden." I still can't believe that Washington and Golden State evaluated that situation by saying, "Hmmmmm … no thanks, we're gonna roll with Bradley Beal/Klay Thompson over adding a franchise guy." Sorry, I interrupted, go back to breaking down Houston's playoff chances, please.

...I did not know any of this at all. That is rediculous. Washington and Golden State? Wow. Morey is killing it.
