If we get Josh Smith now, it won't take the max to re-sign him, especially if we're going to get another All-star. He probably won't quite get the max in his next contract, anyhow.

50% chance the Rox either get Smith or another player of his caliber (or better) today.

It's also the era of contracts. Get Smith, no space for Dwight.

Anyway to be quite honest I'd like Smith more than DH. Dude's banged up, maybe he recovers his quickness...but likely his game would be a step slower ala Amare. Dude was 100% dependent on his athleticism, you gotta wonder how healthy a guy who's battling spine and shoulder injuries would be in the next 3-5 years.

But considering we just got the top 5 pick last year let's just stand pat and develop our guys LOL. Much cheaper that way, and if we suck then we could have a pick to trade for the guy we like.

How can you even say this? Smith's market right now is the max, he expects the max and he'll get the max. And if we offer him a contract that's not the max, what's gonna compel him to sign it if he can just wait the year out then hit free agency anyway? In that case, why the hell did we even trade for him when we could've signed him outright?

Lin & Asik = cap room for Dwight.

I reckon Asik can be moved easily during free agency (the Blazers or even the Mavs) but only when a Dwight deal is guaranteed. Lin trickier, might need to include him in a deal for Smith, but that's a gamble as Smith can walk in free agency.

I think we would ship out Linn in acquiring (if we do) Smith.... Makes dunce why we are looking for pg help...that report doesn't say back up pg help but rather pg help...with Linn gone we could potentially get both Smith and Howard...

One exec involved in talks w/ATL for J Smith now saying "50/50 chance he gets traded." That's a downgrade from yesterday.

Jeff Zillgitt @JeffZillgitt 2 minutes ago
If Hawks hold on to Josh Smith past trade deadline, there is basically zero chance he re-signs w/ATL. That's what team like Houstons likes.

I just don't see it. Unless it's from Woj or DA I'm not listening.

Even in the off season. I just don't see the Rockets paying Smith and expecting him to be the #2 option. I don't get it.

I wish I was more familiar with Josh Smith's game.

Can someone who is familiar with his game and watched him play give us a sense of how good is man to man defense is?

Is he good enough to to lock down, or slow down a guy like Carmelo Anthony, Andre Iguodala, LaMarcus Aldridge, or Kevin Durant?

I know he is a power forward, but what positions can he guard? Is he versatile and quick enough to guard small forwards and two guards, or strong enough to guard centers?

For comparison purposes, how good is his defense compared to guys like Ron Artest, Bruce Bowen, and Shane Battier.

If he is a lock down defender, and management thinks they can sign him long term after the season to a fair value deal, I think it would be worth it to give up two of the following for him, Jeremy Lin, Parsons, Donatas Motiejunas, and/or Terrence Jones.

He's a plus overall defender. I would not count on him to lock down small forwards though, he is a 4. That said, his help defense would certainly be welcome and he'd be relatively good at covering 3s on the switch.

No, but he's a good shotblocker so he's always contributing to protecting the rim.

Different positions. He's a lock down defender at the 4, not the 3.

The Rockets Management must be CRAZY to even consider Smith of Atlanta.
    A) Not GOOD enough!!!!
    B) Too old for our team
    C) Far Far too expensive
    D) Plays wild and performs spasmodically.
    SMITH---NO. Y:p

    Thanks for the input OremLK.

What would you be willing to give up for him?
Would you be willing to trade Jeremy Lin and either Terrence Jones or Donatas Motiejunas for him, and to you think Atlanta would consider that a fair trade?

Who could we possibly give up to get him without including Asik to even make the salaries work? Unless it's a 3-team trade, we're not making a deal for him now...

As the trade deadline turns, I'm told Houston is no longer in the mix for Atlanta's Josh Smith - with 109 minutes to go anyways.
