I would applaud every GM in the league if no one overpays for him which almost always happens in this type of market. It looks like it might actually happen at least for this trade deadline.

Smith is a really good player. But he never made an all-star game, career 15/8, and questionable shot selection. At best he's the 3rd option on a championship contender.

Absolutely, either way why would we rush in and overpay Josh Smith knowing there's a good chance JSmoove's gonna join us in the offseason anyways?

Thanks to Morey, we have all the chips in our hands when it comes to free agents. High potential prospects, young promising players, cap space you name it!

We might have to re-name flexibility to DarylMorey

J smith wanting the max is crazy. He does not play winning basketball. He can block shots but his post defense is weak. His offense is OK but hes not somebody the defense needs to double team. He wants the max but he is not even a all star caliber player.
Asik is more valuable then smith. If I had too I would be willing to pay more for asik then I would for smith. Josh smith doesn't make the players around him better asik's rebounding, pick and roll defense, rim protection and screening enhance the entire team.

What you forgot are his more than 2 blocks per game. Smith is not a go to guy - but a great all around player that probably helps more on the defensive side than on the offensive (while not being a negative on offense, but a really good player, that shouldn`t take contested jumpers).

I don`t think we need to trade for him - but I do think that whoever trades for him has an advantage to resign him. If we do trade for him, I hope we don`t give up too much.

I doubt the Rockets are hard in on this. Likely explored the idea...thought about it...backed away.

    But we will see.

Do not want Smith. Not worth Asik & parsons. Not even worth just Parsons.

Dat defense doe? Smith's offensive repertoire is only icing on the cake. His top-tier defense is the cake.

Josh Smith makes too many bone headed plays and bad shots.

As much as he is a stat stuffer, he's still not max money.

I don't mean to dismiss his defense. But if you want to build a championship contender, I don't see him as the 2nd option as good enough. And then spending max-ballpark for a 3rd option is too much.

Either that or Parsons and Lin have to get much better. That's not a knock on those guys though.

As much as I like Parsons, he is definitely worth Smith.

I really do not want Smith or Howard...just don't like how they look.

You would think they'd find a replacement somewhere. Perhaps even Jeff Teague from the Hawks who will be a restricted free agent.

Not really sure about that. He made the 2nd all NBA defensive once in his career. I don't think that qualifies as top tier.

If we sign Smith for the max there goes our hope of ever winning a title.

If we get Smith, a lot of you are going to be surprised with how much the Rockets win, although some of you probably won't necessarily attribute it to the right things. Josh Smith plays winning basketball, period. Last year he was #6 in the NBA in Regularized Adjusted Plus Minus. He's elite on defense and much better than Patterson was on offense. You don't like +/-? Well, Morey does and his track record speaks for itself.
