Looks like Bucks and Suns are in for JSmith. Maybe the Rockets can get in on the trade and get PG out of the deal. Dragic?

That destroys our cap for the offseason.

People have to be lowballing for Smith... knowing they'll lose him to Houston most likely come summer. I would say this is great leverage to lower the price. I say Hawks are about to get royally screwed on this.

    You misread it

the last line in the CBA quote that was posted says it doesn't apply to teams under the cap...which the Rockets are.

The Players the Rockets want this Summer will be taken anyways. DH not leaving LA and IF he does it will be to the NETs in a SNT I believe. JSmith will asking for the Max.

Teams over the cap cannot make a SNT if I remember correctly.

you know, by passing on trading for smith, we might just find out if we have a young potential allstar on our roster. We're gonna get a better preview of what we have in TRob, DMo, and Jones. Who knows, we might just decide that one of them can be a franchise player, and rather keep him on a rookie contract than pay triple or quadruple the money for Josh Smith ...giving us even more cap flexibility in the long run.

It's not over the cap, they can not receive a player in a SnT if they are over the "apron". which is 4M over the lux tax line.

But still everyone involved in our first trade with the Kings would have to clear physicals and what not before being able to pull of another deal...

So does this mean everyone is most likely off the board of players whom which we've aqcuired?

If so, I really don't want Josh Smith even more.

I think the team can waive the physicals part of the deal. I don't think the timing of the deals would stand in the way of other deals that might involve the same players.

I read that, but doesn't it say he can only be traded by himself?

In addition, teams cannot trade players under the following circumstances:

For two months after receiving the player in trade, if the trade aggregates the player's salary with the salaries of other players. However, the team is free to trade the player immediately, either by himself or without aggregating his salary with other salaries. This restriction applies only to teams over the salary cap."

I guess he needs to pass a physical first anyway and there may not be enough time for that.

How can a player be traded with other player without aggregating the salaries?

If the newly traded for Rockets cannot be included, and Asik & Parsons are non-starters, and the big picture is to add Dwight...

That means a trade package based around Lin for Smith.

For leverage to force a S&T/ability to sign Dwight outright in free agency:

Asik to Blazers to create that $20M cap space.
