Ellis is an easier sell to the fans. The Hawks are one of those franchises which is content to be in the playoffs every year in a low seed in the East, for which they only need to be average or a little above. They don't care about winning titles, they just want to squeeze more $$ out of their fans. Disgusting way to run a franchise if you ask me.

 

I think we would be the third or fourth best team if we got Smith without losing a rotation player. We be the Thunder last night without a PF at all. Smith would make our defense a lot better, rebound the ball, and score points within the offense. Smith is the perfect fit for our offense. Is he worth max money? No, but we can let the market decide his value after this season. I don't see many teams with cap room wanting to blow it all on him. He's a 10 million/year player.

Have to sell tickets I guess. This is one of the few times I just want to keep the roster as is. We can add a top level free agent in the summer and not have to give anything up.

Of course there is. There's always a huge risk to any deal and foreign player you add to an already strong chemistry between other players.

Just look at Dwight in LA, obviously that mix isn't working as first planned.

Then look at LeBron, it took them a year but they finally pulled it all together to reach their goal, win a ring.

Risk is involved in every transaction between teams and players. One thing is we know Morey is definitely not timid of taking major risks for high rewards.

 

If he goes to the Bucks for Ellis hes not staying because he said he wanted to play with Ellis and Jennings

 

i feel you. sometimes you can make one trade too many. I trust morey to know where that line is.

 

If we can get Smith and keep Lin, Parsons, Asik, and Delfino. Everyone else is expendable in my eyes for a borderline (should have been) All-Star. I'm not the biggest fan of Josh Smith, but he would fit in with this team so well.

 

Yeah, its not like we are going to win the title with him this year. In fact, we would get worse because we would be left starting D-Mo

The point is trading for Josh Smith right now takes away that risk. If we can get him for Trob, we are basically risking Patterson, Douglas and Aldrich.

There are plenty of times when taking risks will be necessary. Seeking out risk when it is avoidable isn't one of those times.

 

I could see a Delfino, Garcia (If you can deal him), D-Mo, 1st round from Tjones deal, and 2 second rounders. Thats the only type of deal I would be ok with.

But i don't own or run the team so it doesn't matter what I am ok with. I trust Morey makes the right decision, he has done so most of the time.
