I know, but we're not contending for a title this season anyway. Even with Smith on board.

I will cry for Jeremy Lin if Chandler gets shipped out.

I feel strangely reluctant to break up this core at all. Past years I've been like "Blow it up, Murray!" But this year I really like what we've got. If we're talking about adding an all star PF without losing any starters, then great. But I especially love the Lin/Harden/Parsons trio. I would hate to part with any them.

Why not? Arent we allowed to package him as well since we are under cap?

I thought the 45 day rule doesn't affect the Rockets because we are under the cap.. I could be wrong though

Obviously if you could do just T-Rob for Smith it would be a steal for the Rockets. The problem is that Smith wasn't even an all star this year, but wants to be payed max money. Doing that is one way to make your team like the Joe Johnson/Josh Smith Hawks. Good enough to regularly make the playoffs, and never close to being a contender to win it all.

I would rather wait and see what happens in the hope of getting a more worthy max salary player, rather than to spend money because you feel you have to spend it some where. More and more teams are going to feel the new luxary tax pinch and having cap space will by default make you a player in those trading scenarios for stars that no one is even considering might be available in the future for pennies on the dollar. I wouldn't mind having Smith if we don't give up too much, but preferably only in a scenario where we can still make room for Dwight or another max salary player in the near future.

    He's right.

T-Rob, even without major playing time has been catapulted into the top asset we have right now....

Who in their right minds would give up anything of high value to a desperate team trying to grasp at straws for anything worthwhile via trade.

J-Smoove is not a scrub but possibly very soon to be overpaid. If we're giving anything up it will be something like 2nd rounder + T-Jones + Fransisco Garcia + Tyler Honeycutt....

Anything more than that would be absurd. You don't pay more than you have to for a possible rental... just take a look at the Artest trade, low first rounder plus Bobby Jackson, boom! You got yourself a trade.

This!! I say unless you can get J. Smith for a sweetheart of a deal you wait till the offseason. If you strikeout on Dwight you still have the money to offer Smith a max deal.

I thought Ferry was looking for expiring contracts in order to make a run at DH this Summer?

The reason people don't want Smith is the same reason people hate on Lin.

Because their flaws are so evident.

This is where the eye-test fails. Yes, we all know Smith takes bad shots. In fact, he is an AVERAGE offensive player period. The fact that he may be the best passing 4 man in the league and still an average offensive player overall speaks volumes to how inefficient the other aspects of his offensive game are.

In a league where offense is overvalued and overrated, if you are not an elite offensive player, you "don't deserve" the max. That is of course ridiculous. The value of a player is not in his ability to score, but rather his ability to contribute to winning.

As far as that goes, Josh Smith is top 15 in the league. His defense is transformative.

I still don't see DH leaving LA, IF he does it will be to the Nets in some sort of SNT.

Excellent points. I also feel that Smith's scoring efficiency would increase in our system. He is being asked to do a lot for a mediocre Hawks team.

Not saying he will ever be an elite scorer, but a guy with his athleticism getting set up by Harden and Lin is going to do better out there.

Seeking clarity on Thomas Robinson component (whether Rox can flip him), but someone who is paid to know such rules says they can't.
