We're preparing to trade for Kevin Love. Book it.

But seriously though, MadMax's post gives me hope that this kid might turn into something good.

as fun as it has been to see the high scoring games - the defense needs to get better to see sustained long term success

Robinson if he can live up to his potential rebounding wise -- that alone can net a few extra wins (remember all the 2nd chance points the Rockets give up?)

As for stretching the offense -- the coaching staff can find a way to make it work and honestly both 2Pat and Morris took far too many threes I felt this season

I didn't get to watch him a ton in college. So you think he can be a solid defender at the pro level? He would seem to have to size for it with his strength and 7'4" wingspan.

I second the second part of your quote, he will fit in perfectly with the style of play. He can easily average 15 and 6 and will bring energy. I'm excited about this kid, I too was high on him after college.

Quite an 'understandable' trade from all sides.

The easy one is Phoenix only giving up a 2nd rounder to get Morris and reunite him with Makieff. Albeit it could be a coveted early 2nd (better than late 1st). Scola will likely be traded next season at his favorable post-amnesty contract, to a contender, so Makieff and Morris may step in and play 3/4 with Morris moving to the 4 on match-ups.

For the Kings, Patterson isn't the talent Robinson is, but they don't need two hot-heads with Robinson + Cousins and Cousins is the better player now and foreseeable future. So they bring in 2Pat who works well with Cousins, is mature, and can keep him in line better. Helps with trying to resign Cousins. Also Robinson isn't a great fit ... ideally they want Cousins to play inside and not shoot jumpers, while Robinson needs to work inside. A stretch 4 like 2Pat is good for the Kings' offense.

For the Rockets, 2Pat was going to make way for DMo/TJones anyway before the start of his 4th year, and his value is probably peak right now and he's probably most valuable for the Kings due to the Cousins angle. Aldrich/Douglas was always going to be gone either at the deadline or at season's end. Garcia/Honeycutt are effectively expirings that increase the cap space (albeit slightly), with Garcia being able to slide in to back-up Harden or allows the team to play a Harden, Garcia, Delfino, Parsons, Asik line up that would be great for spacing.

Why Morris for 2nd rounder only? Because Rockets probably couldn't get anything better, and they wanted to get playing time for DMo, Jones and Thomas Robinson (and eventually Royce White) and now that Delfino can slide to the back-up 3 with Garcia being back-up 2 behind Harden. And Morris going increases the cap space a bit more. I guess it is one thing to have cap space for a Max like Harden who is a younger player, but it is a different thing to have cap space for a max like Howard.

I think we're all in for Howard, perhaps Harden whispered something back to Morey after all-star weekend :)

If we get Howard, we can legitimately trade Asik and say Jones + Robinson to Minnesota for a disgruntled Love, who would probably lose Pekovic this summer.

And with 3 max contracts + Lin, we would need as many players on rookie contracts or cheap veterans like Delfino on the team. Hence another two 2nd round picks :)

Oh, and on Robinson ... he would work better as a finisher of a offense than trying to create his own offense. Much like Lin/Harden/Parsons (I think the most underrated passing 1-3 combo in the league) can get Asik ~11pts/30min at ~58% FG (just check December to Feb stats), they can make it work for Robinson as well.

This is one major concern about getting massive picks... we don't give them time to develop... until we get that second allstar damn

but in the meantime Robinson is athletic as it can get... even more athletic than Terrence Williams

From CNNSI.com: In total, the Kings send out $10.3 million in salary commitments this season while receiving just $6.6 million in return. Plus they got $1M in cash.

Sorry for not being enthusiastic. We give up our best pick and roll defender for someone who has "potential". I believe Hasheem Thabeet had potential too. I just don't want to see people b****ing when we dont make the playoffs.

I said it before and I'll say it again - this season is not important. It is a rebuilding season. If we make the playoffs, great - some experience and we finally lose our 1st rounder meaning we can trade a future one again. If we miss the playoffs, well then we get a lottery pick.

Our guys need to improve and learn the system and how to play with each other. And this team is not a finished product - we have max cap space this offseason. So all Morey is doing is to set us up for the future.

Is T-Rob that bad? Maybe - but you shouldn't judge a young rookie after not even a full season. Draft experts were really high on him, many thought he should go 2nd overall - and most thought he should definetly go before the 7th pick. And one thing everybody seemed to love was his character, his work ethic and his body/athleticism (describing it as Kobe speed in a LeBron body).

Now, after 50 something games with the Kings, limited minutes, a couple of double doubles I am not ready to call him a bust. I think he is a kid that is overwhelmed by the big game and the fast pace and that is lacking a jump shot. But high character hard working guys can learn all that - especially when working with elite big men coaches.

And in the end, the move was also about cap space. We had to do some small moves (letting go of Delfino) to have max cap space this off season - we have a lot more breathing room right now and are closer to Howard's max. So that might have been the move that gets us another superstar, either by trading T-Rob or by having the cap space...

I haven't been this excited since we traded for Jordan Hill!

    Oh, wait...

(All kidding aside, I'm excited. Great trade. But it's good to remember that we ALWAYS seem to salivate over every newcomer.)

PF is what we need. Athletic, can rebound and run fast break. Young, fit a rebuilding team. Sounds like a good trade.

As long as Robinson can rebound, finish at the rim, and play defense...he will get plenty of playing time.

Do you guys think this move takes the Rockets out of the CHI trade rumor?

I liked PPat, I think he's a real catch for them. A solid player. But the opening up of the 4/5 for Smith/D-Mo/TJones, that is gonna be awesome. Plus we get a low-risk/high reward palyer in Thomas who is a top 5 draft pick~ In Morey we Trust.
