I enjoyed the place most of the time. Weekend nights it got way too crowded. Not sure why it closed since it seemed to be doing well.

I went the Saturday before Christmas for the first time. Someone got pulled over in their lot and went to jail. I did something stupid and got kicked out but went the next Wednesday and they were cool

Really? It never seemed exclusive/racist to me.

I always thought their food could be better but it was a casual place you could catch a game at.

Pearl Bar was also always packed and then it just closed. Washington is just to spread out. Kung Foo I guess is the new packed place.

Not just racist. A white friend of mine was wearing a work shirt once, they wouldn't let him in. It was Sunday at noon during the Texans game and the place wasn't very crowded. When my friend pointed inside to me who was dressed better, the guy said he thinks it would be ok. Place seriously sucks though anyway.

    Another article.

Washington is evolving from the Douche "suburb club crowds who think Washington is hip" to restaurant row. There are more than a few new restaurants just waiting on permits to open. The only ones that are even remotely busy any longer are Kung Fu (98% dudes) and Liberty Station, which is fun on Sundays. Even Pearl Bar closed, and THAT place had history. Washington Ave is just cleaning up. Too many drunk driving incidents, fights, residents complaining, etc. and it was a cops wet dream at 2am. It's really just not popular for the club people any longer. They're all moving to midtown or Rice Village.

I'm very glad. Sick of hearing cop chases and police helicopters every Thursday-Sunday around the park.

I never had a problem getting in but yes they judge a book by it's cover at the door.

I never had a problem walking right in. I'm also a cracker and my wife is a scandinavian blonde, so I'm sure that helped. The place was always just meh though. Very bland bar food, and the atmosphere was lame.

There's a place that's always packed when i drive by late at night...i think it's Hughes Hangar?

I also saw a place that was PACKED for ASW just a few building down across the street. May have been a temp building/place though. It had signs of expected guests.

But yeah, there's been a lot of improvements on that street, especially new residential buildings. Big difference from 3-4 years ago.

Upper Kirby is where it's at. Hughes Hangar was very, very nice on Sunday though

Sawyer always came off as Pub Fiction to me. I've never heard of anyone that couldn't just walk right in.

I've been going on Wednesdays about once or twice a month for the 25 cent wings (which were awesome) and crowds slowly dwindled down for the past 6 months.

I don't go on weekends as much anymore, but the few times I did it was pretty crowded.

Never liked it. Crappy food and beer selection.

Kung Fu I actually like. I hear Jessica Alba frequents it.
