bro, i never said i wouldn't trade jones. I would gladly trade jones for an upgrade. If converting jones into a 1st rounder helps us get a better player, then i'm all for it. I just don't want to trade him for a protected mid-rounder (that could turn out to be in the 20s) without it being part of a specific deal for an upgrade. I said as much earlier in the thread (actually on the page right before you first replied to my post ...8, i think).

    T. Jones will play heavy minutes in this league for someone very soon. I like him, but it's a business.

I like him, but I don't think he's irreplacable. And, honestly, I think we drafted him with the intent to trade him anyway.

You still don't understand, you 1st need to gather assets to position yourself before you can make yourself available for a potential deal.

Like the Harden deal. Morey traded Lowry for a pick before he knew he could turn it into Harden, you know.

We don't need "solid" at the PF position at this moment.

You think other teams wouldn't think like you? What made you think that other teams rather get Morris than Jones?

Maybe he isn't happy being in the D League and asked for a trade?

i do understand that. But what you don't understand is that Jones is more valuable than a mid to late round pick. He is an asset in himself. He's a super young PF with extremely high upside; someone who would likely be a top 10 pick if last years draft was held right now, and likely even higher in this year's shallow draft. I would keep him rather than convert him to a late or mid-round pick, UNLESS we have a deal on the table that we love, which requires us to go out and get a mid-round pick ...and even then, I'd do everything i could to move Morris or Pat before i moved Jones; but i would move him to get a specific deal done.

Oddly, I think Rockets prefer Morris and more importantly for trade purposes, probably value him more than other teams. I think they see him as a talented stretch four that will be very useful in small ball.

Yah I agree...plus rookies take time to develop. You are unlikey to find a player with as much upside as jones outside the lottery...and no chance of one that has experience He has been given this year. Which means lest prep time before he is ready.

so if I was a gm and I was faced with lakers 2015 pick or Terrence Jones...id take Jones. And if I just had to get a 1st rd pick for whatever reason I would try to move moris over jones as well.

It's easy to read too much into this report. There is a big difference between another team inquiring about what it would take to get Jones, and Morey saying for a high enough first round pick he would consider it, compared to Morey being the one actively shopping Jones by calling other teams to see if anyone is willing to give up a first rounder. One implies that for the right price Jones is available, which he should be at this point. The other implies that the Rockets are actively trying to get rid of him, which I doubt is the case. Either scenario would fit the Woj tweet though.

I'd have to think him being "shopped" would probably be in relation to the apparent frequent talks with the bulls. Jones would be the extra sweetener to pry out the bobcats pick or mirortic draft rights. Morris I doubt would get it done for the bulls.

Jones for Rip + bobcats pick or mirortic

    Maybe maybe no?

White...for all issues with team, he has huge upside, but a low floor as well.

Motiejunas, 7 footer with post moves. Weakness is defense, but appears to have passed Jones in defense already by being on club. From snippets of interviews, Jones just has not gotten defensive rotations down yet. Motiejunas just needs more strength to get in game.

Parsons....if he had another year of improvement like last year, he'll be a player.

Does Lin count since he went undrafted?

does anyone ever see him being more than a 14/7 player?

those type of players may be available in every draft.

we can let him go in the hopes of finding a better player

Actually, while I understand it is a business, and you do whatever you need to do to get better (does ANYONE think we made a bad deal by losing Lamb and getting Harden?), I think the reticence is simply because we haven't been able to really see ANYTHING of TJ at the big-league level.

It's human nature, curiosity, we just want to at least see what the guy can do before sending him away.

The fear of course is that he ends up being a much better player than whatever we get in return.

This is where we need to trust Morey though. He has access to knowledge and information that we never will.

But I definitely feel the reluctance. Heck, I feel it for White, and even still a bit for Lamb. But then I watch Harden play, and the hesitancy diminishes a bit :)

holy crap, either Morey knows something or Jones is way underrated

I'll rather trade Morris or even Pat instead of Jones, big fan here

It makes sense. DMo is ahead of Jones now and has higher ceiling, while we may need to play Morris if 2Pat is traded. Even without trading 2Pat, it makes sense to have experienced depth at our weakest PF position (even if they are not world beaters) for a playoff push to entice potential free agents.

Our PF future is either a (quasi) star from free agency/trade, or DMo.
