Can someone confirm the rules for trading picks that you have already received in a trade? Are you allowed to add additional protection on these picks?

If what's been said about the Bobcats pick is true, then it's a ridiculously good asset. Unprotected pick from the Bobcats?? That's as close to a guaranteed top 5 pick as you can get. Of course, whether the Bobcats can suck for so many years in a row is a serous question (they did make the playoffs once in the past few years), but it still seems like a very attractive asset to have.

I would trade James Anderson for Hamilton and the rights Nikola Mirotic in a heart beat.

These days, and at his age, they actually make the knee stronger than it was before.

Hamilton is not expiring. According to shamsports, he has a partially guaranteed contract ($1 Million guaranteed next year).

It would only make sense to me if we sent out someone who is on the books for next year (Morris, Patterson, etc... ), as well, or his contract cuts into our capspace for next offseason.

Aldrich is expiring, so sending him out makes no sense because we lose capspace ($1 M) next year.

Of course, a $5 M contract with only $1 M guaranteed can be a trade asset, as well, allowing the Rockets to take back more salary and the other team to save $$$ by cutting Hamilton.

This is all depends on whether Morey thinks his best move is in trade or free agency.

I could see a Jones trade tied to the Hamilton trade as Hamilton is guaranteed a million next season. Trading Jones would allow the Rockets to gain a little space next year that they would lose by having gained some salary with Hamilton.
I could see Jones being traded for a protected 2014 first. Douglas for Hamilton and 1st or Mirotic. I could see Rockets trying to get 2 additional firsts for 2014. Sign big free agent in 2013. Trade 3 2014 picks in 2014 for higher pick or a young player about to break out.

Another asset they have is Jimmy Butler. That dude is pretty good, wouldn't mind taking Hamilton for him. He's a young stopper who can score with a great rookie contract going foward. However, he's doing pretty well over there and I'm pretty sure they won't trade him. And he's from Houston

FWIW, by my (very rough) calculations, trading Rip plus a first rounder/Mirotic to Houston for [essentially nothing] would save the Bulls approximately $6.8 million in salary, tax and added tax distributions, plus it gets them off the hook (for a year) of potential "repeater tax" penalties down the road.

Let's hope that's enough of a chunk of change for them to cough up Mirotic or a first rounder.

I think the Bulls are 3 millions over the cap, so probably the rockets are sending Morris or delfino,if the nice Charlotte pick come with Hamilton. I hope so

I can't get to Larry Coon's faq right now, but I'm pretty sure the only additional protection that can be added would be in the form of an either/or type deal in which a team is guaranteed the best (or worst) of two picks available.

If Houston decide to sign a max free agent next summer, will rip's contract affect much?
(Just clearing my head out,I'm getting confused)

Nope. He's only guaranteed 1 million next year.

No, Rips contract is coveted by the Rockets because he has a 1Mil dollar buyout this Summer. I'm not sure if that 1Mil counts against their cap next year or not, but I would assume the 1 Mil would be well worth the asset they are recieving for their troubles Tommorrow. Assuming the rights to Mirotic or the Bobcats pick are at the top of their wish list. 1 Mil of cap space is well worth it IMO.

Rockets still have 6 mil in cap space for this year and Rip's contract is expiring.
Never hurts too add championship experience too a young team going into the playoffs. Would also give the Rockets around $2 mil more for free agency spending.

Bulls need cap relief? Trade Parsons and expirings for Deng. They get their relief. We get a legit #2 option who comes off the books in time for the 2014 FA class.
