I would take him, I think he is a good player with promise. But you have to wonder why the 'Wolves would consider giving up on him already... He's still only 21.
haha... at 5.2 mil GUARANTEED next year.... hell no. No way Im wasting precious capspace on this guy at any cost unless I think he's worth missing out on acquiring a truly worthy #2 option. Its the curse of the #2 pick in the draft. They get paid way too much if they don't pan out and quickly become hard to move contracts if they cannot produce almost immediately.
Much better low risk gamble pickup IMO. Should be able to get him on a Greg Smith type of contract as well. If slightly more, they still will be able to put a team option on the deal this Summer if they need to clear a few pennies. Thing to note- If the Rockets are looking at Greene, that might mean they are probably planning on moving at least one of their PF's in a deal.
Yeah - they're exactly the same except Williams is athletic and looks to score, while Royce is unathletic and looks to pass. GREAAAAAT comparison there
Quoted for truth on the capspace front! If DW was any good, then for sure it would be worth getting him. But he's a massive project, and it would basically be giving up any shot at a max FA for what??
Can post up a bit, can shoot the 3s a bit, mediocre at best defender and rebounder... don't we have a guy like that on the roster? *coughMarcusMorriscough*
Williams is 21, Morris is 23. Williams is also a better athlete, so when you combine that with his age, he clearly has more upside. Granted, Morris is a better 3P shooter right now, but that's about it... Williams is better in every other way.
Derrick Williams is a slight upgrade over Marcus Morris. But at twice the money. I think Williams could have his contract expire next season 2014, 2015 is a team option. It'd be like a Hasheem Thabeet kinda look from couple years back, except the Rockets probably wouldnt get a pick with it. Unless the Rockets add another player in there to get more back. It'd depend how much Rockets value his upside. $3 million more than Morris next season to see. I don't think the Rockets would do it.
And peace? I bring you loooovee and peeaaceee.. "HEY EVERYONE HE BRINGS US LOVE AND PEACE! DON'T LET HIM GET AWAY!" "BREAK HIS LEGS!"
This. Strengths/weaknesses are similar. Similar production. Williams is a better athlete and all-around scorer, but it's nowhere near enough to justify the price tag. Agreed that it's the curse of the #2 pick.
