Its a bad comparison, but you're leaving out that Chuck Hayes was a superb defender due to his strength and IQ, while Faried isn't particularly good on that end.
I won't lie on draft day I was screaming at the TV when we didn't take Kawai Leonard I thought he would end up being the better pro. There's probably just as many GM kicking themselves for not grabbing Parsons in the top 20. But yeah, either Leonard or Faried would be perfect with this team right now and would cover up a lot of the defensive problems we have.
I wouldn't say he has the ideal size. The Rockets get a lot of crap for drafting undersized power forwards, and Faried is smaller than every PF on the Rockets roster.
There's a bit of bust factor in the Kenneth Faried types even removing the small school element. He could be a "Rodman'esque" high motor player. Or he could be like a Renaldo Balkman, DeMarre Carroll type, a glue guy fill-in off the end of the bench. (Denver's had them all at one point lol) Dennis Rodman was a #27 pick (2nd round back then). Even David Lee was a #30 pick. For some reason those types get undervalued time and time again. When you see the skills of the top 15 NBA forwards, Blake Griffin, Nowitzki, Aldridge, Love, Duncan & Garnett, etc, its not hard to see how Faried doesnt have those kinda offensive skills and size measurables. After Marcus Morris in that draft its not like there's an abundance of NBA contributors either. And though the jury's still out, the Rockets hedged their bets getting Donatas Motiejunas later. Its possible teams overlooking Chandler Parsons was just as bad as overlooking Faried. Still, Faried is rubbing it in bad. And Kawhi Leonard was probably a "safe obvious" pick then and now.

I disagree. A lot of guys have the motor, but lack the height. Faried has both. Rodman was 6'8''. Faried's rebounding in college was Rodman-esque(imo). Karl Malone, Larry Johnson, Charles Oakley, all 6'8''ish. Those are ideal PFs to me.
Really good player, but he lacks in the skillset necessary to be an elite player. Mostly relies on his motor and athleticism. Don't think he'll ever be a superstar but I definitely wish we had drafted him over Mook.
If we had drafted Faried, he would probably be going in and out of the D-league as the vets get more playing time. -_-
The fact that he's 6'7 and from a small school probably stood against him on draft day in a big way. Huge gamble to see if he'll pan out. As it stands, the guy is good on the hustle and all, but he hasn't got much offensive game outside of the fast break dunk! He's scoring 12.3ppg in 30 minutes, and doesn't seem like he'll develop a 'move' in the post. Nothing against the guy, he does what he does really well, but I'd be shocked if he's a top 5 PF in 2 years time. And I don't think he would be a very good fit for the Rockets at all. He would just clog the lane and prevent Harden from driving and so stifle our entire offence.
I compared the work ethic of Hayes and Faried and not their game. Chucks level of his game is the result of hard work. I agree with you that Faried is a monster but again it is mostly hard work.
Everything you said was pretty much spot on. The Nuggets totally hit the jackpot with Faried. I don't think anybody knew how good Faried was going to be except maybe himself so nobody should feel bad. The guy definitely plays with a chip on his shoulder and goes all out every play. With a player like Faried his ceiling is limited but he doesn't really have a floor because of his style of play. I always loved players that play bigger than they really are and Faried is the epitome of that.
Told my friend this year faried reminds me of Dennis rodman, better offense but not as good on defense as rodman but they have almost the same motor plays hard 100% when their on the court, energy hustle players Champion role players Btw not saying faried is as good as rodman or exactly alike. I'd still pick rodman over faried if they were the same age
Faried is not a leaper. He doesnt have exceptional athletic ability, thus I dont think he will ever be a great dunker. But he is an energy player along the lines of Varejao or the old Chris Andersen. I dont know about all-star, but he is a solid 4, and could a great stretch 4 with his speed and energy if he develops a midrange game like so many have said
Like how that was said (simple, but havent heard it like that). The type of player that wont himself have any downs. There's something to be said about having a consistent motor. Description makes it like he's Paul Millsap. Faried is underheight and a little thick, in the "Mike Harris" mold. Doesnt have the svelte look of athleticism. But he glides around getting wherever he has to go, he can reach his max vert cuz he has "bounce", which to me is athletic. (Alright, enough posts on Faried from me lol.)
Anyone watch Denver vs Boston tonight? Denver won, Faried pulled down 16 boards and basically dominated the 4th quarter.
