I think Dwight will want to re-invent himself after the Orlando and LAL fiascoes. Although I do think he's a douche, I think he wants to be liked, and will try to stay low-maintenance for the near-future to do so.

Orlando's problem was that they had a good system around Dwight, but not enough talent. The Lakers have a ton of talent, but the current system is an utter failure.

The Rockets provide an opportunity for Dwight to be in a fairly large market (and not fade into irrelevance), yet not constantly be in the spotlight (and be scrutinized). They have enough talent (including a legit co-#1 in Harden) and a system which seems to work. It makes too much sense for Dwight on all fronts.

If he heals properly, it makes a ton of sense for us as well. He's the finisher we don't have. He's not an elite-low post threat like some Cs of the past, but can score in the post, giving our offense a dimension it's desperately lacking (and one we definitely need in the slower-paced playoffs). When healthy, he can run the floor with the best of them, and protect the rim at an elite level. Asik is great, but he's a huge liability in many areas - and he also holds trade value.

Really the only question we need to answer is whether he'll ever be fully healthy again. If the answer is yes, there's no question what needs to be done.

Dwight is not good in the post, he has a terrible back to the basket game and is a poor passer out of the post. What he is good at doing is finishing lobs, etc which will come in huge amounts with the Rockets system and Lin and Harden.

He's not good compared to other past "best Cs" in the league. But to act like he wasn't effective at all when he was healthy is an ignorant and dated analysis. Yeah, his post-game is not refined skill-wise, but he'd still convert on 4-5 FG a game from post-ups (prior to this year), and we can use that.

Yes, a lot of it comes from his explosiveness, and without that, he's been far less effective from the post in LA, but when he's healthy he still gets "his" in the post - whether it looks pretty or not. I mean, compare him to Asik, who's likely to turn it over or throw it over the backboard on 90% of his post-ups.

I know DHo has huge talent and upside... but he's a total douche! I loved how SVG called him out at that news conference and then DHo comes in lying through his teeth - not knowing his bs has been outed! C'mon guys, we have a good young TEAM - let's not screw it up by constantly trying to add this lying two faced immature lazy diva to the mix!

Signing DH in the offseason would be great because it gives you the double asset of Dwight-Asik. I don't think keeping both on your roster is the best use of cap space, but Asik woudl be a great trade chip at that point.

I think the reality is to get a "third" best player, assuming we only have 1 of a "Big 3" at the moment and a 2nd could be had via FA, the team will have to trade one or both of Parsons and Asik. While I'd personally rather include Lin in that group than the other 2, I think Lin stays for both business reasons and return reasons - he shouldn't net as much. A Parsons/Asik + combined package should get you a really good player in return.

In an ideal world, Parsons/Asik/DMo should be able to get you Kevin Love or Aldridge.

    Lin, Harden, [x], Love/Aldridge, Howard.

On paper isn't everything. And you need to fill out your bench a lot. But that lineup on paper competes for multiple championships.

Stars win rings, not role players. The Pistons were an aberration and the Heat and Thunder are staked.

Considering the drama DH brings, I would rather pass this guy. This guy bring drama to everywhere, even Lakers or guy like Nash is fed up with him.

I thought that was pretty odd and wondered if it was some kind of hint. Then I realized he was probably just pandering to the Texas crowd. But that begs the question...why does he hate the Aggies?

Dwight is the perfect fit for our team. Jeremy and James lead the league in driving to the rack. Now we have the perfect lob/dump off magnet who can also create his own shot in the post. As good as Asik is defensively, Howard's better. This team then becomes top 4 in the West. Add another quality 3 or 4 man trading Asik, along witty Parsons and Jones and you could be getting a quality 4 such as Love or Aldridge.

Parsons is at an all time high in trade value. I want to keep him badly, but to get a great player, you have to part with a few quality players.

I think the drama is manageable. For one, there wasn't as much dram when he was winning. Second, while he clearly should play through the pain better and b**** less in LA, it is important to note he is still recovering from serious injury while also getting injured somewhat further. Third, his personality does NOT mesh with Kobe's well AT ALL. This is partly on him. But it's a lot on Kobe. Shaq had issues with him. Bynum had issues with him. Gasol has had issues with him. Not many people mesh well with Kobe. Howard should play through it better, but he hasn't. I don't think he'll have that problem in Houston.

I am not concerned about Howard wrt to drama. I'm more concerned abour him wrt to injury history (a growing concern) and pay vs. play. He's clearly better than Asik. Way better. In this really bad season for him he still is rebounding more, scoring more, higher FG%, etc. But is he $20 million to Asik's $5-$8 million better?

But again, the issue is how to get better. Howard is meaningfully better than Asik, and getting Howard allows you to trade Asik.

If you believe we only have 1 of a "Big 3" and some really really good role players (Parsons, Asik, Lin), then the only way to get 3 of a Big 3 will involve trade. Alternatively, we can just try and get a Big 2 (ala OKC) and keep the really good role players.. which could work, too.

Of course he was throwing up a "H" for Houston. Anyone saying otherwise is uninformed on rap generation and Houston culture.
He was showing respect for the city he was in, I applaud him for it.

Does it mean he will sign in Houston this off-season? Of course not.

Does it mean Houston has a chance of signing him? I would say so.
