The Lakers will be looking to rebuild after Kobe retires, and they aren't good enough to win now. Signing with the Lakers means one more year of the Kobe train wreck and then 4 years of being on a rebuilding squad. It would effectively waste all of the rest of his time on a team going nowhere. It would make MUCH more sense for him to just head to a contender for slightly less and have a chance to win every year.

That's pretty speculative. You have at least 1 more year in which you're guaranteed Kobe, and even after then, you're banking on said other star to take less money and basically try and fill Kobe's shoes. That's a massive gamble. Not impossible, but...

Laughing at these people who are saying no to Dwight and that they'd rather stick with Asik and go a different direction. Dude's having a "bad" year as stated by many of our own posters and still leads the league in rebounding. Pairing Harden and Dwight would be a dream scenario.

Doesn't mean much, but I have a friend who did the NBA Cares Day of Service Friday. I participated too, but I was at a different location than him (I got to meet LeBron at mine!) He got to talk to Dwight while he was working, and said to Dwight, "You got to come to Houston man." Dwight kept looking down working and then a big grin appeared on his face. My friend continued, "You know somebody had to say it to you." Dwight looked up at him, smiling then laughed.
He left completely convinced from that experience that Dwight wants to come to Houston.

I think he is a massive drama queen douche but let's be honest, hes Asik but better at everything Asik does and we are going well with him. If we could land Howard as a FA and then send Asik for a package for Smith or even better Love. I would be fapping like crazy.

But he stupidly grins at everything. That LMA fan account was genuine, the dude actually said he would really really want to play here. Unless you're in LA/NY, I think every max player would want to play in Houston. That's why if we don't get DH12 or CP3, I say we tank for a run at Andrew Wiggins and sign whoever we want 2014.

Wow...team chemistry (what little they had) is murdered here. Hope he isn't traded to the Nets.

I just don't see Billy King trading Lopez for him mid season. From their perspective they can wait 3 months and sign him outright, trade Lopez for another good player and some picks and be in great position.

To be fair, the quote seems to be taken a bit out of context. Kobe is saying rumors shouldn't matter to the players, because it can affect their mindset. With that being said, it is a little telling for Kobe not to dismiss the idea of Dwight getting traded.

We'd have to ship off Lin and some of our rookies though. No way we can afford everyone

Tanking doesn't guarantee the first pick. Plus it's hard to tank when you have Lin harden and Asik, we'd just be wasting one year of their young careers

I think the only teams willing to risk it for Dwight in a trade are Atl, nj, and us.

Atl has horford and trading Dwight and pairing him with josh smith at home along with a lot of cap space would be interesting. Don't know if its enough to keep josh smith there as he's pretty disgruntled.

Nj trading for Dwight could be smart because they get a good big.

Other than these 3 teams I don't think any other team would be willing to trade for Dwight and have a shot at keeping him.

I'd rather get him in fa though. Keep our pieces. Knicks were stupid in not waiting for melo, we shouldn't make that mistake either
