5 years from now the Rockets will be in the same situation they are now which is being a mediocre team. They haven't made the playoffs in forever and right now their in the 8th seed. It's strange to see so much support for a gm when he has produced nothing but mediocrity. I see zero reason to believe the rockets are anywhere near or even trending towards being championship contenders. The Rockets are stuck for the foreseeable future, too good to land a a superstar in the Draft not good enough to ever seriously contend. We can applaud Morey all we want for his cap management but the reality is that a true superstar will never sign in Houston through free agency.

    This isn't the 2011-2012 season.

Quite surprised Morey didn't decide to test FAcy and maximize his fair market value.

    No brainer.

Always in the back of my mind was the fear that some deep pockets elsewhere could steal away Morey, so it is a huge relief we re-upped the best GM in the league.

IN MOTHER ****ING MOREY WE TRUST.

Agreed. This is an easy decision.

Harden + the young talent we have + max cap space this summer = a GM that knows how to make the stars align and potentially build a contender from scratch.

James harden and 4 role players is not enough. This team will never be able to compete with elite teams. This team has limited potential, can anybody even envision a scenario where the rockets will be competing for championships in the next five years?

Yes. We now have that piece we can build on with max salary cap space to sign another star player to boot. It's an ideal situation and other teams would kill to be in this position we are in right now.

Honestly, except for the Heat and the Thunder, name 10 teams in the NBA who are in a better position than us in the next 5 years.

We can't get another star player max cap space or not we are not a marquee destination. Your right the nba is full of mediocre teams with zero championship aspirations. The Rockets are stuck in the middle. They have no chance at getting another superstar. Morey in his infinite wisdom will sign a j Smith or Millsap type and relegate the rockets to being a team with conference semi final max potential.

Get ready Houston are you ready to be in the playoffs every year but still have no hope to win it all?

    Oh God.

We STILL have pro-tanking advocates? Even when we got a guy who, you know, you get via tanking if you're lucky to begin with and was a top 3 pick?

And Sam Presti picked Cole Aldrich above Patterson and Sanders, guess he should be fired too.

That's just unfair to say considering we're not even one season old with Harden. Yes we are not a marquee destination compared to the bigger market cities but with James Harden with this team now, he will definitely attract 1 or two all stars to join him. The important thing here is, Daryl Morey has put us in this ideal situation.

I've been a Rockets fans for more than 20 years now and i haven't felt this good about this team's future going forward.

I'm just wondering though, just when this team's set up very well for the near future and finally having that franchise player that most team's covet, why'd you choose to register here and rant about negatives now? If there was a time to be worried, it was last season. Morey has actually turned this franchise's direction that's worthy of a GM of the year award.

Nextup, for someone who just registered now, based on your first few posts in this forum, it's either you're angry with the world and Morey for some reason, or you're just a troll.

All you're doing is predicting this team to suck forever. Are you even a Rocket fan? If you are, i really don't get where all this negativity is coming from. We are in a very good situation now, even better positioned than most teams.

At the end of the day, it's just basketball. We have far more important things in life to worry about. Lighten up and quit being so cynical. ;) Betteryet, find another team to root for. I'm sticking with the rockets till the day i die, sorry.

Anyway, i've made my point and i'm done with this thread. I already voted YES. Those 6% like Nextup who voted NO clearly have some strange issues or Mavs fans trolling the forums. ;)

Early on in Morey's career he discovered that he had a knack for finding talent among the rubble. Diamonds in the rough. For a couple of years he amused himself in this fashion, thinking that getting good value at minimal prices was a good enough validation of his work.

Now though he is better than he's ever been. Studying guys who got results like RC Buford and Pat Riley, he learned that all the auxiliary GM business is fine and dandy, but ultimately worthless if you can't recruit the right centerpieces. He finally has a working top-down approach, and in his back pocket lies that ability to get players for the minimum who will complement well his superstars.

Look what he's done this year by pulling Machado and Tony Douglas and Delfino out of thin air. Greg Smith cultivated as an UDFA. And then look how easy he dropped Machado and signed Beverly. He knows that such players are available off the waiver wire. He can find the ones that work for us.

Dropping Morey now would be like the Texans kicking out Jacoby Jones just when he was about to learn sure hands. We all used to think the Texans were on the up and up and the Rockets were treading water. Now which franchise has the momentum???

Harden saved Morey's butt. Basically, that's the story. Had that not fell into Morey's lap, we'd be a rebuilding celler dweller - tanking for the first seed. And it still would have been an alright job by Morey. But from Les's "judgement" it was the Harden trade that got Morey's contract extended.

The only way you get a chance on trading for a player like Harden is when you position your team to do so. There's a reason why Sam Presti dealt Harden to Houston and not to the other 28 teams in the league. The simple reason was, Morey had the best package available for such a trade.
