All you have to do is watch the tape and you see how talented he was. Im not claiming that he should go down as a "top whatever player of all time," just saying the dude was extremely talented.

Not one time have I argued the Tmac was better than Kobe. The talent level was close at a time, but at some point Tmac hit his ceiling and Kobe kept improving. Kobe is better than Tmac, I said it. Can we please stop using an argument that I never made against me?

It's not that cut and dry! What am I? I believe injuries to Tmac AND Yao failed the Rockets. I believe that in the Yao/Mac era, the TEAM (as in every player/coach on the team, INCLUDING Tmac) failed to achieve what they had the potential to achieve.

Am I not a Rockets fan because I dont put 100% of the blame on one player?

Wow, I came here on clutchfans to see good threads. Yet people are still talking about this clown, Tracy Mcgrady? I am so disappointed.

To be honest, Chuck Hayes, despite all his merits, I didn't think was starter material. He gets a lot of praise, and a lot of him deservedly so, but when you have Chuck Hayes starting at one of the most important positions in the NBA, you can't expect to win.

Rafer Alston was always a total scrub.

Just look at the performances of guys after those guys departed the Rockets. They barely contributed to any of their new teams.

Rafer Alston - off the NBA in less than half a season.
Chuck Hayes - very decent but not starter material.
Shane Battier - very mediocre stats and would barely be noticeable if he wasn't playing with the LeBron James and Dwyane Wade. Hes almost invisible to opposing teams on the offensive end and his defense is still nothing impressive.
Luther Head - Put on waivers almost as soon as T-Mac was traded away.
Juwan Howard - Veteran's minimum player.

Those were the best players apart from Yao on his supporting cast. Put the current-season LeBron there and I'm not even 100% sure he can get past the 1st round.

Damn so sad shows what happens when one player has heart and the other one is lazy and dosent work on his craft. O well tmac got what he deserved now he's stuck being a scrub in china. It all worked out thanks for the good memories tmac but after the Toronto game he lost me as a fan, which worked out because he's sucked so bad after that so I haven't missed much hahahahahhahahhahahahahahaha.

TMac lacked that toughness and competitive fire.

Damn. This tinman is really bitter. I never really saw our T-Mac and Yao teams winning anything anyway so it didn't really hurt all that much what he did to us. T-Mac had many many flaws, but he was still an amazing joy to watch in Orlando with all terrible teams. He had his moments in Houston, but playing that slow offense for JVG and his **** old knicks players was not using T-Mac right. Blah blah blah making excuses for him blah blah...his teams were ****. Sorry he didn't cry his way to being drafted by LA so they can build championship teams around him. Not that Kobe isn't better, of course he is. But, for me...only because mentality and work ethic and HE PLAYED FOR THE LAKERS.

Those are how many games Houston got T-Mac. We NEVER got Orlando T-Mac(dude was doing crazy looking dunks with crazy hops in Toronto and Orlando and all he ever did in Houston was regular power dunks. Where was the same lift?). He hurt his back at the end of 03-04 in Orlando. A Back that was already giving him issues. There's nothing you can do about that. And so what does Tim Grover(i hope im getting his name right) have T-Mac do? Gain huge amounts of muscle mass as if he has the same body as Jordan and Kobe who he trained as well.

It was awesome having T-Mac as a Rocket. But i wanted that 25 year old T-mac on a team like we have now in an offense that we have now. Thanks CD and JVG for the amazing talents surrounding T-Mac and Yao. Thanks old Jim Jackson, old David Wesley, old Bob Sura, old Juwon Howard, old Jon Barry, old clearence weatherspoon, old charlie ward, old rod strickland, old mark jackson, old vin baker, old mo taylor. Reece Gaines, can't forget about you. Who? Mike james! Yeah, you really proved you belonged in the league. Scott Padget?? White boy could ball! Bokie?!? Every Rockets fan hoped you would be what Parsons is. The marketable good looking white guy that can actually play. Except you didn't stay in the league long huh? Moochie?!? Machine.......Ryan Bowen. I want you to guard Dirk Nowitzki in the playoffs. Ryan Bowen. Ryan Bowen.

**** we need some talent. Oh were gonna take this opportunity to draft talent since we had a miserable season in which T-Mac and Yao both barely played and were going to trade this talent to WIN NOW! By trading for a ****ing role player! Batman! You're the key to all of this! Championships here we come! Skip to my Lue? Green light son. Dat boy Luther Head?!? Next Gilbert Arenas!! Bonzi Wells?!?!? He almost single handily beat the Spurs by himself as a King! Kirk Snyder? Defense monster! John Lucas??? Gon be just like poppa! T-Mac of Greece??? Its OVA! Steve Novak! MAYNE! We got so much talent we need this sniper roaming on the outside! Undrafted Chuck Hayes??? NEXT barkley without the offense!!! Ol Mt. Mutumbo! You got this if and when Yao goes down!

Thing about tinman is that he seriously comes off as a guy who's living in the past. From boasting about 34k posts to highlighting his '99 join date...those are things that stand by themselves. You don't need to pull it out of your pants and wave it to every passing forum-goer.

Anyways, tmac's 13 in 33 was one of the reason's why I became a Rockets fan. I could look at that clip all day.

I don't mind fans calling the guy a loser or something. But some guys here are just arrogant about it and it is really annoying. They follow Fakers and Spurs players instead of crediting the good things the guy has done for Houston.

He was not the greatest of Rockets but he was a Rocket. Kobe and Duncan will never be Rockets....unless a miracle happens

So you preferred watching Mcgrady on Orlando cause that team 'sucked' and he had to do all the work.

Yet he 'had his moments' in Houston cause he was surrounded by a better team. That's what he wanted right? that's one reason why he left right?

    http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/ORL/2004.html
Record: 21-61, Finished 7th in NBA Atlantic Division (Schedule and Results)
Coach: Doc Rivers (1-10), Johnny Davis (20-51)
So you honestly think it was worse watching McGrady in Houston?

    http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/HOU/2005.html
Record: 51-31, Finished 3rd in NBA Southwest Division (Schedule and Results)
    Coach: Jeff Van Gundy (51-31

Guess what pal? They FIRED Doc Rivers (ends up being an elite coach)
Then they fired JVG for Rick Adelman. The offense dramatically with new system and teammates.

Guess what happens during Rick Adelman's tenure?

Thanks for the link. I didn't get to watch much NBA basketball in McGrady's prime Orlando years, so its nice to watch this.

His jumper was just so effortless in that 2002/2003 season. Beautiful to watch, and he really did have the entire package that year. Its sad that he peaked so early and could never sustain that level of greatness in subsequent seasons.

are you telling me that these videos of Kobe vs Tmac are of the present of the future?

The present is that Kobe is still with the Lakers and still is a top scorer in the league.

The present is that Tmac's season is over in China and at the end the coach didn't even start him, plus he DNP in the 32 game season in China.

These events must occur in the past.

This is what Kobe said to spur this whole reaction:

The topic continued with the time Kobe played Tracy McGrady one-on-one:
    http://dimemag.com/2013/01/kobe-bryant-says-hes-the-best-1-on-1-player-ever/

I played T-Mac. I cooked him. Roasted him. Wasn’t even close. Ask him, he’ll tell you.
When I was about 20, we were in Germany doing some promotional stuff for that other sneaker company and we played basketball every day. We were in the gym all the time. We played three games of one-on-one to 11. I won all three games. One game I won 11-2. After the third game he said he had back spasms and couldn’t play anymore.

Do you not honestly read the topic?
Show some respect to the OP at least.

This topic is Kobe vs Tmac 1 on 1 (in the NBA Dish) because it shows McGrady in all of his various teams .
