Bro, there are plenty of teams that would do a sign and trade because they can't sign him outright. That's precisely the point. Teams over the cap for instance.

That's not how it works. It works out for the player to do a sign-and-trade cause he gets more money. And in the case of big-name FA's, the team that wants them has to go along with this.

Dwight will be a FA no offseason trade

Fair enough, but teams that are over the cap can't do a sign and trade if they are over the luxury tax so the amount of teams would be limited.

Not anymore. They changed the rules. The only way Dwight can make more money is to resign with LA. A sign and trade works for teams like Brooklyn who are over the cap. Houston could sign him outright as a FA, but Brooklyn can't.

The Dwight Howard saga will never end !!!!!

With that said I'd welcome him with open arms.

No longer gets more money(or years) in a S&T.

Dwight gets the same amount if he were to walk to Houston(or Dallas, Atlanta, etc) as he does if he's S&T to any of those places.

4 years ~88 million if he leaves LA
5 years ~117 million if he stays in LA(or is traded before the deadline)

*I could be wrong on some of that but pretty sure on most of it.

Of course it works out for the player, but my point is that if he wants to go to Houston for example, it wouldn't be through sign and trade. If he wanted to go to the Nets, they wouldn't be able to do a sign and trade since they are over the luxury tax. If he wants the money that bad, he can stay on a crappy Lakers squad dealing with Kobe.

I believe after all these years of him not being able to choose who he wants to play for that the money wont matter. I'll be shocked if a team chooses to sign & trade for Dwight without a guarantee from him that he'll re-sign.

Brooklyn is over the luxury tax line so they can't do sign and trades.

Thanks for the clarification. I'll take both of your words for it, as I'm certainly not about to go digging thru the CBA lol.

It's hard walking away from $30mil (If that's still what it is)... But it's a little easier when you're a max player making even more money in endorsements etc.

A piece of mind & the "fun" he wants to have = priceless

If we traded Asik, Douglas, Jones, and Donuts for Howard, and then let Delfino and Aldrich walk in the summer, would we have enough cap space to sign Millsap as well?

    PG: Lin/Beverley
    SG: Harden/Anderson
    SF: Parsons/Morris
    PF: Millsap/Patterson/White
    C: Howard/Smith

That's the best team in basketball.

I don't think he's getting traded before the deadline so he basically walks to a team of his choice that as max caproom and leaves $19 mil on the table; sign and trade to a team of his choice that's under the cap. Or resigns with LA for the most money.

Is LA even allowed to S&T him or is there only restrictions for teams receiving the FA?

Don't forget the Tax breaks, Houston and Dallas can offer about 9 million more just because its not taken out of his check.

Lakers need to do something about Kobe and his ball hogging if they expect to keep Howard.

Basically if Howard decides to stay he'll be accepting that he's not going to get the touches he needs until Bryant retires. The Lakers organization would be supremely dumb if they allow Kobe to do his own thing when he's about to retire... Potentially leaving them without a superstar and ZERO "assets" in return.

If Kobe gets mad, who cares... Lakers have a better chance of getting Kobe to get rid of his no trade clause & get talent/pics etc. in return versus an unhappy superstar who's supposed to be their future leave

But no one would want to touch a $30 mil contract...

    Lakers are screwed, either way
