This is a joke. McHale is not going to get fired and frankly does not deserve to be fired. First he does not hate Jeremy Lin, he is the Rockets 4th best player and 3rd on the team in minutes. Further, McHale did not design the Rockets offense, and he is not the one deciding on what plays they run. There are different types of coaches, McHale defers to his assistants and has the larger role of being a leader, and McHale is a good leader. The Rockets are James Harden and a bunch of spare parts. They are exceeding expectations
No, I'm a long time Rockets fan who is annoyed with all of the crazy Lin fans. He's a good young player, but his fans act like he's a superstar player already. It's just nuts. The team is doing well, Lin is starting to come around, all should be right with the world, yet all we see is "MCHALE HATES LIN" "FIRE MCHALE, LIN DIDN'T GET 40 MINUTES"
clapclapclapclap Standing ovation! But I do believe that McHale sat down with his assistant coaches 2 days before the season started and asked "How the hell do we build an offensive strategy?"
I think that's part of the reason that they were throwing out so many different rotations early in the year. They had a roster that was thrown together at the last second and they wanted to see what they had. In some ways, they are still doing that.
And I do really like the read and react offense. Parsons, Lin and Harden are really good running it. It also converts a simple offensive system into a more sophisticated system because the players have the green light to improvise if they see an opening. And it is how the game should be played.
I'm just going to throw in some random McHale theories here just for fun. You know what they say, the more you care about the person, the madder you get at him. Remember how Lin said McHale was like a father figure to him? Also add in the fact that McHale recently lost his daughter, maybe he really is treating Lin like his son. And you know how parents treat their own children; they exemplify and overreact to everything they do/mistake they make wanting them to do their best and be the best. Maybe that's why he's been going off screaming at Lin lately and resting him alot when he looks exhausted and hurt. Something to think about for the fans of Lin.
To fire McHale when his team is in playoff hunt, with whole bunch of youngsters? You are kidding me? Other cities will love to have a team like Houston and their exciting brand of basketball, not to say the blow outs they have been doing to good teams and they do this with still enough money left for another max contract superstar. McHale has done a fine job. If anything I complain about him is that with his own potent post up skill in the old days with the Celtic, why is it he can't coach and pass it on to his many young talented but raw PFs? These guys are all shooting 3s, lol, instead of posting up like he did with the Celtic. I like his many spins move anchoring one one leg. Just marvellous.
The point is by far the most difficult position on the BB court. Lin has played BB all of his life and is used to the coaches. He obviously has a strong sense of self (or he never would have made it through Linsantiy) and so in all likelihood understands it is just business. The players who react badly to aggressive coaching are the immature kids. Lin certainly is not that. McHale is a Sunday walk in the park compared to Pop. And if Duncan and Parker can put up with Pop for all these years ...
Just one word. D-Mo. He is a whirling dervish of moves and skill and craftiness in the post. Next year it would be fun to see a video of D-Mo in the post side by side with a video of McHale's post moves.
Yeah but DMo didn't get his moves from McHale, he's been playing professional basketball for 7 years now and has developed those moves over that time.
I thought about that the other day and it struck me how strong the disconnect is for some folks around here. The very same people who are screaming to high heaven about McHale supposedly yelling at Lin are the ones who want to compare him to Tony Parker. It is a well documented fact that Pop was VERY harsh and critical of Parker in his first few years on the Spurs, he would yank Parker when he screwed up just so he could b**** at him. Yet these folks would much rather have Pop than Mchale(honestly so would I, but that is neither here nor there) because they think Mchale is too harsh on Lin. its baffling
I like the story of Pop going off on TD in a practice. Pop screamed every explicative deleted possible at Duncan for five minutes. And that was after working together for over a decade.
I still dont buy the theory that Mchale hates Lin and ONLY gets on him for messing up. I have yet to see it and I have watched every game. I see coaches and players get into animated discussions during timeouts, but that is the extent of it and it is perfectly understandable to those of us who have played organized sports for most of our formative years.
Because it is totally fabricated by a certain group of people as a means of vindicating their favorite player. What kind of rational person is actually going to believe that Mchale actually has an agenda against Lin that he would put before the Rocket's success? Its a joke.
McHale is a bright, level headed, team player who is respected by everyone in the NBA. He quite possibly is revered by his players. I mean, how good must it be to be playing for one of the greatest BB players of all time? Admittedly he can be brusque with reporters, but I feel sure he has higher priorities than chatting with a bunch of BB morons.
When Bulls fans saw Asik play this year, they marveled at how much improvement Asik had as an offensive player from last year. And Asik had absolutely zero offense last year.
Well yeah, McHale has done great things with Asik, I was just saying DMo has had great post moves for years.
All of these theories man, they're always too dramatic. You guys make everything sound like a soap opera and every action seem so much more melodramatic than it really is. You don't need a theory about why a coach yells at a player, it's not because he hates him or that he loves him, this isn't The Bachelor. The coach just yelled at the point guard. No big deal, it happens all the time. McHale and Sampson are working with Lin just like any young point guard who makes mistakes. McHale has yelled at point guards before and Sampson has cheered for Lin before, yet everyone wants to make every little thing Lin goes through sound like a bad television drama. Us Lin fans should have left that fake drama with the Knick's beat writers. Atleast they are doing it to sell papers, we do it just to keep ourselves entertained. No offense, didn't mean for my post to sound so contentious, just being honest about what I'm seeing. Lin averages 33 minutes per game, the same as most starters. Sometimes he will get yelled at. Sometimes he'll stay on the bench when the team on the floor is playing well. That'll happen to young players. It's just basketball. McHale has been working closely with Lin and by Lin's own words: “I don’t think I’ve ever had this much communication with a head coach…He cares deeply for his players and he goes out of his way to show that. Even while he was gone, he was texting me after every game and before games." This team can't be expected to be much better, but we definitely could be a lot worse. We've also seen improvements by every player on the team. Harden playing better defense, Jeremy shooting better, Asik has been improving offensively. I just don't understand how anyone could possibly be complaining about McHale right now?
