Last time I was at Snows, this chick in front of me was talking to her friend about how long a drive it was to Snows. Then she proceeded to order chicken.
The original Burns location at De Priest, there are 2 other locations but I've never been to those 2.
Any good BBQ places in downtown? We usually don't have much time to head out when we come down for a game.
Alright, decided to go to Gatlin's instead tomorrow. Hopefully this brisket will show me the light. If not, y'all will know about it. (either way, you'll know about it).
Fixed P.S. You can ask for different cuts of meat depending on what you like. "Lean"-exactly what it is, no fat, lean beef. The best bbq still has good tasting lean beef. "Top Cut"- not all persons at the cash register will understand what you mean, but top cut just means the more tender/fatty part of the brisket. It's not quite the fat [don't let them throw a whole bunch of fat on your plate] but it's literally the top half [or quarter really] of the brisket [assuming it was cooked on the correct side]. My favorite is the Top Cut.
had Luling for lunch. Brisket was good, sausage excellent and ribs okay. But that sauce makes it all worthwhile...
I would recommend getting there early. It's a small place with limited seating if you're planning to eat there. If you're getting your order to-go, call it in.
Any of you ever been to a fine dining BBQ place. I think it could be an exciting idea. Make the best BBQ and present it in a fine dining establishment. I always like eating my BBQ at hole in the wall places, but I have never seen BBQ done up like that. Maybe because most fine dining establishments use premium cuts of meat. But I believe the true test of a great cook is taking inexpensive cuts and making them taste out of this world.
As others have said, go early. Be prepared to wait in a long line, but realize it's fine. The lady who is often there running the front is awesome to talk to. She's great. Even if her friendliness makes the line take a little longer, it's worth it. She's awesome. I hope you enjoy the food.
Best side: Pappa's has some of the best fries in the city. I'm not a fan of their sauce at all, but the baker loaded with spicy sausage is pretty good.
My parents love it (I grew up right down the street from it), never could get into it. Not bad, but didn't blow me away either. I've had the location on N Shepherd while the original was being remodeled. That one came out from some sort of family dispute so it's not the same recipe being used at the other locations.
