Right now seems like I'll switch from Xbox to PS, not into all that media and Kinect shizzle. This time games seems to really make a difference between the consoles and PS4 will have a pretty good power advantage.
Cool details. I am very interested in the new Kinect, but at the same time I'm also quite concerned about the security implications of having a camera always on and pointed at me. Not to mention a camera with who knows how many microphones on it (4 on the original kinect). I appreciate the implications for gaming, but I live in the real world where the government monitors what its' citizens do. I've thoroughly went over their privacy data for how it saves Kinect data; (supposedly completely encrypted/random information etc) but I just still can't trust something like that. Call me crazy or whatever. Not to mention this one will always be on, because the Xbox itself will have wake on voice... Edit: Couldn't rep you any more than I already have RC.
I think they're happy with how this worked on the Vita, and they're trying to do similar things here. But the implementation is a little different, and I'm not sure this would be as useful given that it appears smaller. Would likely work well for things like LBP levels and things like that. They'll likely show off their ideas next week, so we can see whether this is something to get excited about. If you missed it, there weight light(?) thing on top might imply some sort of Move functionality (camera included, like Kinect?). Funnily enough, a fan created a mockup a few weeks ago that looked almost exactly like this...just more polished. Think I might have posted it here (can't remember).
Not a lot of info, but controller details from VGLeaks: http://www.vgleaks.com/orbis-dualshock-layout/ Someone noted that the "rectangular boxes" on the left and right sides of the devkit might be the cameras rumored to be part of Orbis (not sure about that...).
Pretty sure that's a safe bet. Don't know to what degree though. They started doing cross-platform deals with Vita-PS3, and I'd like to think they'd continue that with PS4.
Not a lot, but some analysis on the controller shot from Digital Foundry: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-orbis-dual-shock-4-leak-analysis Click the link for a picture explaining what they think various "things" are.
^ WHY didn't you just add the picture onto your post? I'm thinking: "Why in the heck do they still have a cord attached onto it?!?!? Aren't they supposed to be wireless, either way?!?!?" [/end skeptical]
Yeah, I thought about that, but I've been trying to be a little better about "stealing" clicks (at least from sources I like). I already posted all of the article's content (guess I could have just posted snippets, but didn't feel like it), so if I posted the picture, wouldn't be any reason to click the link and check out their site (and since I liked their analysis and their work in general, thought I could do that). Plus I was lazy (especially since I usually rehost images before including them). They are wireless, but just like PS3 controllers, you'd use USB to charge/connect them to systems. I'd imagine developers might prefer to keep their controllers connected when possible (and in that specific previous shot, the cable was used to "stand" the controller up). New picture:
Sony will use Gaikai to play PS3 games it seems (among other things?): http://www.theverge.com/2013/2/15/3993970/playstation-4-will-stream-ps3-games-reports-wsj
Controller looks okay, but I think I can stand to wait another week for the actual reveal. Not DAT excited about the new PS so far, unless absolute buy ends up being revealed.
Not sure I quoted this right, so here's the website in case I screwed up. http://www.explosion.com/23424/rumo...tm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=zergnet_47162 Pretty substantial upgrade for Xbox it looks like. Crazy amount of storage.
I hope MS won't use Blue Ray technology. But they should use Blu-ray technology. (I don't really see why they wouldn't support Blu-ray though...that alone kind of makes me skeptical of some of these points, though none of it really sounds far-fetched from what we've seen before...other than the Blu-ray stuff)
Isn’t one of the drawbacks of blu-ray games is that you have to download the game on the PS3 hard drive because Blu-ray speeds are not that fast or something like that?
