Are you currently working? When was your last job? Also: netword. I'd wager that a majority of hires "know somebody."
Do you have a green card or citizenship? Are you here on a work/student visa? That's what he means by sponsorship.
You have to know if your credentials cross over here. I know this doctor from India that adjusted and became a pharmacy tech, ultrasound tech, and teacher over here.
There were a few guys from the Phillippines at UoH engineering school that already had engineering degrees. Even with work experience they still needed an engineering degree from the US to get a job. Why not just work in the phillippines as an engineer? What caused your move to the US after graduation?
I thought you had to work as an engineer for 5 years before you could take the PE? At least it is for mechanical is it different for IE?
Look into Tenaris, huge company that hires plenty of Industrial Engineers. They have several plants in Houston and have one of their main offices in the galleria area. Check this article out. http://www.chron.com/news/texas/article/Pipeline-giant-Tenaris-to-build-1-3B-Texas-plant-4282502.php
Well, I've met people in a similar position to you. They're all either going back to school here or accept an engineering technician job. The pay is still good starting out but you won't progress much. I suggest you accept one of those 2 options and continue looking for jobs.
You should be able to do project work, HSE/safety management, operations management or flow control management with a pipeline or on the manufacturing side with a mega food producer. Eagleford Shale/South Texas is exploding right now, they're building all kinds of plants and pipelines to move that shale gas to the Texas and national gas markets. I think you have to strongly consider working outside of Houston, maybe even in a smaller town or flyover state where there are lot less college grads to compete with.
There are many companies that have holes they are just looking for trustworthy employees and my suggestion would be to take a lesser qualified job and work your way up. Trust me it won't take long as long as you prove yourself.
I was born and raised here. Went to Philippines for college. Now I'm back. To Mr. Clutch: I graduated in October 2012. To MIAGI99: Yes, I'm willing to take a lesser qualified job as long as it's engineering related. To pouhe: Moving outside of Houston... hmmm, I definitely don't have the money for that. Currently living off my brother, don't have money of my own. To pmac: What does an engineering technician do anyway? Man, I would go to school if I had money. To ElPigto: Thank you for the lookout. Although Tenaris has no hiring offers on indeed.com, will check their website right now. To SevereRocketsFan: Before the PE exam, I have to take the FE exam. The FE exam has no requirements. The PE exam requires five years. To cheke64: I think my credentials will cross, I researched a bit and they said all I have to do is take the FE exam then get my degree evaluated. To HR Dept: Thanks, I'll message him soon. To Pete the Cheat: Thanks, i'll check it out. Thank you for all the responses everyone. You don't know how grateful I am. Keep em comin' if you have anything else I should know or have any more leads.
Did your college have any placement programs? If not, keep firing your resume out. And go to networking events. Try to get an interview at friends companies. You don't want to be out of work too long. It looks bad and makes it even harder. Maybe apply for an internship so your resume isn't black for a long period.
PM'ed you, but yes-take whatever you can get if you're desperate while you continue to look for the I.E. job. Make sure resume conveys knowledge and skills in I.E. - at this point, your education IS your experience, so if you have several projects you completed for I.E. classes, you need to describe them on your resume, including the results. I used to know the HR guy at Worley Parsons- they're an engineering consulting firm in Greenway Plaza- I'll see if I can find his email. LOOK UP WORLEY PARSONS ON THE WEB AND SEE IF THEY HANDLE INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING PROJECTS. Education section should look something like this, except list each project individually and put descriptions for your projects: PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT Master of Business Administration, Executive MBA Program, 2009: University of Houston – Houston, TX Courses: Organizational Behavior; Effective Communications for Leaders; International Environment of Business; Managerial Analysis; Leadership; Art of Negotiation; International Business Residency; Business Law and Ethics Selected Projects: Global Capitalism Assessment, Group Paper, A- Grade; State of U.S. Automotive Industry Analysis, Individual Paper, A Grade; China/U.S. Business and Economic Comparison, Group Paper, A Grade; Singapore & China International Business Residency, B Grade Bachelor of Business Administration, Marketing, 2005: University of Hawaii at Mānoa – Honolulu, HI Courses: Chinese (4 Semesters); Intercultural Communications; Multinational Marketing; Professional Selling; Mediation Skills; Economic and Financial Environment of Global Business; World Regional Geography; Principles of Effective Public Speaking Selected Projects: Modern Chinese Economic History, Individual Paper, A Grade; BMW Strategic Analysis, Group Paper/Project, A- Grade; Wal-Mart Strategic Analysis, Group Paper/Project, A Grade; Lenovo Group Ltd.
