We do have a dominant rebounding force in the frontcourt... And that's possibly 50-60 points from the backcourt on a nightly bases..
Kevin Martin was thought to be injury prone before the Rockets acquired him. I don't claim to know the history behind Gordon's injuries, but I'm sure Morey is well aware of the risk.
The funny thing is that we could have even MORE cap space in the summer by trading for Gordon.... Lin + Patterson + Morris + White + Parsons = more salary than Gordon. (we could bring back non-guaranteed Smith, option on Vasquez, expiring Aminu). We could then pursue a max FA in the summer. Big 3 created. And after July Gordon has no say about where he gets traded to, so we could just ship him off to the Suns, who are crazy about him and will most likely overpay to get him...
Gordon has pg skills & ability. Plus he can shoot. He would be a big pg, that can shoot & is a plus defender. Lin & parsons for Gordon is a no brainer to me. Ego & Harden backcourt is the best backcourt in the nba and possibly the most talented ever. PG -EGO/Bev SG-Harden/Anderson SF-Delfino/Morris PF-Patterson/Dmo/jones C-Asik/Dmo/smith That's actually a very dangerous squad
its a 13th draft pick squad. Rockets need to shoot for western conference finals not just spending for the hell of it. Gordon will demand max money which is horrrible with his injury history and will kill cap flexibility
Let me get this straight. Houston fans want their team to trade for Eric Gordon, despite the facts that: 1) He plays the same position as James Harden; 2) He is coming off of a relatively serious injury and has not looked good this year; 3) His preference was to play for one of the league's worst-managed teams (Phoenix) over a team with some excellent building blocks that is well-managed and seemingly headed in the right direction (New Orleans); 4) He has behaved pretty unprofessionally ever since New Orleans matched Phoenix's offer sheet (lack of professionalism = huge red flag); 5) He is owed nearly $15 mil/year during the 2013-14, 2014-15, and 2015-16 seasons; 6) Gordon would kill the team's cap flexibility going forward. C'mon, guys.
Because they want Lin? OR want to dump Gordon? Or both? Vasquez isn't THAT good. He's steady, but not outstanding. Jarret Jack was 15.6ppg 6.3apg at 45% last season for NO. Sure, Jack is very handy as a 6th man, but nobody is going to mistake him for an all-star prospect. Vasquez is in the same boat, somebody has to put up stats on the NOrleans roster, and he's doing so. His assist total is very impressive, but there are major concerns over his ability to defend the PG spot.
C'mon rog. We can get Gordon and still be in a position to sign a Max FA this summer. If we can get Gordon for Lin + ?? then I don't really see how it affects our guard play? Harden + Gordon >>>> Harden + Lin. The idea behind it is "buy low" - IF we can get Gordon cheap, then what's not to like? That we could still be in a position to sign a max FA in the summer is complete win isn't it?
Gordon is already getting paid max money, and wouldn't have to kill cap flexibility. In fact, he could increase it by giving us the option of trading him for another max contract. Currently the main way to do that is to make a 12 for 1 deal (ok, so I exaggerate slightly). If we were to pick up Gordon, and he played out the rest of the season healthy, then he'd be a major major asset in the summer wouldn't he? [or a major part of the team going forward]
Most likely Morey checked in with the Pelicans and made his customary lowball offer and then just waits to see if he'll get lucky. It is just what Morey does.
