No. You started this entire discussion by saying McHale sucks since he refuses to take blame and throws his players under the bus. This is your post that I originally responded to: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=7639570&postcount=1977 If we are discussing that, then fine. But since that post, you have not mentioned any evidence where McHale's public demeanor has caused issues. Instead you use his substitution patterns as evidence. Subtitution patterns and post-game press conference demeanor are completely unrelated. If you had just started off by saying that McHale sucks because his substitutions suck, then I'd have ignore your post. Instead, you come off as someone who put forth an opinion with nothing to support it, and when called out, refuse to back off bust instead switch over to another argument that has no relationship to the original. This seems incredibly disingenuous to me. I believe it's normal for fans to hate on the coach. I just don't believe in blindly attacking a coach based on something as flimsy as "he doesn't say the PR things in his post-game press conferences."
actually you began the discussion in post #1979 with 5 questions framing the issue how you wanted. i played along anyways in the interest of constructive discussion and brought up lin's obvious lack of confidence this season and how mchale's post-game ridicule *in addition* to 4thQ benchings have likely played a role in that. you proceeded to cut apart the last snippet (substitution patterns) while conveniently ignoring the 1st half of my reply -- and now call me essentially an inconsistent unsupported poster lacking in ingenuousness  you also still refuse to answer my 1 lone question even after multiple posts now. now..judging by your asking me (in the closed-minded commoner spirit) if i'm a student or working, i'd say that you come off as someone who make a nice living for yourself in politics or law. but please keep your practice drills and skills development restricted to the D&D
Thanks for calling me a troll based on my join date. I wish you would also counter some of my opinions, so that, you know, we discuss basketball and coaching decisions.
Not a Rockets fan (am a Lakers fan) but have been watching some of your guys' games since the Lakers are downright unwatchable this year. Will admit I've been watching Harden/Lin. Some of McHale's rotations are confusing, but overall, I say he's doing a decent job. Could he be better? Probably, but a young team will have growing pains. Heck, the Lakers have problems as an old team. As for this McHale hates Lin stuff, I don't see that. It seems to me, some people just haven't really played basketball ever. I can tell you that my coach used to yell at our PG all the time. It has nothing to do with hating Lin. Your PG is supposed to manage the game. That's what McHale wants. I on the other hand, played a rebounding/defensive minded PF and did my job and was almost never yelled at. It was because I was nothing special. Just someone that rebounded and played hard D. Coaches are going coach, players gonna play.
Can you stop making this about just Lin?! Please?! McHale has many other faults and he should be fired because of them, not because he thinks Lin is not as good as he would have liked.
Well said. I would like to add some more: playing G. Smith and M. Morris out of their natural positions; Knowing we have two best PnR guards but don't set PnR plays for them or don't use our PFs good at PnR; the use of 2Pat for the first half season is more than odd.
Ppat sitting the whole 2nd quarter (not sure) was insane. Dude has been pretty good lately. Why bring out a cold Morris or Delfino didn't make since to me. We have Mcfail, now Mccain. Like I said man, give him one full year at least and some of next season. Didn't the commentators of the Clippers say something about Mchale when they were team mates? He said that he thought Mchale was the last person to be coaching. That statement is telling.
Kyle Lowry came out in the media last year and criticized McHale; Dragic wanted to get out. Harden, wait til the end of the season.
Lowry came out in the media and criticized McHale because he was upset that Dragic outplayed him and he ended up on the bench. Dragic wanted a 4th year, nothing more. He couldn't get that here, so he left, it had NOTHING to do with McHale.
O rry? The poster above me already answered it but great example of trying to further an agenda without the context of the situation.
The only thing worse than an Ad Hominem is falsely accusing someone of it. He was upset about losing his starting role due to injury and that's what he was bashing McHale about.
I suggest anyone who plans to accuse individuals of Ad Hominem in the future read this. http://plover.net/~bonds/adhominem.html You'll learn that what I said was not Ad Hominem. The original poster suggested that players in the past had problems with McHale's coaching, I pointed out that Lowry's problems were only due to him losing his starting position and not due to how McHale coached games. That's nothing but an accurate statement and in no way attacked the credibility of either Lowry or the original poster. The fact that Lowry had a problem with losing his starting position did not change that he had previously thrived under McHale just as Dragic leaving for a 4th year under contract didn't change that he thrived under McHale.
What I like to complain most about the coaching is that they don't seem to recognize (or simply choose to neglect) the strength (or comfort zone) of each player. Is this a typical problem for a coach who was a HOF player ? Trying to put players out of their comfort zone to fit the unproven system occurs too often so far this season. 2Pat looks better recently because he is allowed to do something he is good at, the midrange shots. But there are still a lot of things that don't look natural to the players.
