Its astonishing to think how far the gay/lesbian movement has come in the last 10 years or so...a step in the right direction!

    This is good to see.

Pro sports has a terrible image in this particular space (see Tim Hardaway's and other NBA players comments following Amaechi coming out).

Not to mention that came about because Kobe called the ref a ****ing ***got in a game, and got fined $100,000. So, while the act itself is noble....Kobe certainly learned the hard way.

I think the title means that Faried is the first one to join this particular group, not any group advocating gay rights. Good for him.

One more reason why Faried is better than Patterson.

Heard about this.. It's great someone is stepping up. The way that athletes toss around homophobic slurs is ridiculous.

    Thats good.

Homophobes are everywhere. I don't have a problem with gay people, I have a few gay boy and girl friends and they're actually funny as s**t for the most part.

You do have your few flaming queer attention w**** types but they give regular gay people a bad image.

I'm not gay but I'm pro this.

Faried is on a different level compared to Patterson in terms of on-court play.

I'm gonna say this, and you can all start to flame, degrade and insult me as you wish.

BUT I DON'T GET THE GAY MOVEMENT FOR CIVIL RIGHTS!

First of all, I do NOT equivocate being gay to the civil rights movement like being African-American, etc. Most people have accepted the "I WAS BORN GAY" argument, but I have not seen enough true or reliable evidence for this to be accepted as fact.

It's an insult to African-American who were brought here as slaves and had to fight for freedom and civil rights, to have their plight associated with or compared to the gay rights movement...it ain't the same.

I see being gay as being a choice, just like the actual act of choosing to have SEX PERIOD is a choice, that some people in society CHOOSE not to engage in ever in their lifetimes. SEX is not a prerequiste to being able to survive like food and water is for example. So being gay, whether you are inclined towards it from early childhood or brought into it later in life through other circumstances, still ultimately boils down to YOUR CHOICE on how you want to lead your life.

Now, on the other hand, I don't think that gay people should be abused or hurt in anyway. Although I don't agree with their lifestyle choice, I believe that they are free to choose such choices and not be treated inhumanly because of them.

It also amazes me how the same people who support gay rights are so judgmental of other sexual practices such as polygamy. I'm not talking about the practice of child polygamy, because that is not two consenting adults, but that between consenting adults is still frowned upon and illegal. So on the one hand, supporters of the gay movement rights are supporting religious standards of 1 to 1 relationships even if they are male/male, but if two females want to marry the same man, they consider this gross and inhuman. It makes no sense to me at all because one relationship will produce life and family, while the other produces no family life from within itself or reproduction of our humanity; which is a necessity to keep life going and progressing.

Personally I don't discriminate against gay people or treat them harshly because they have decided on a sexual preference. But it does irk me to see it put on display and treated as a movement equivalent to the civil rights movements of for example african-americans that suffered under slavery and Jim Crowe laws in this country.

Just my two cents...now feel free to insult and attack me as much as you like.

I hate it when people get butt hurt when I call something that's stupid "gay". A word could have multiple meanings, and if you're that sensitive maybe you should just go hide under your bed for the rest of your life.
