That Morey says top 30 player, and not top 20 or top 25, probably means players like Josh Smith & Paul Millsap are in the picture, for the right price. But obviously not their top target.
So basically no one is safe except Harden. But aren't Asik and Lin's contract end the same year so there isnt really any way they can keep both of them?
I really think morey pulls Greg Monroe from Detroit THIS year. There's not enough room for him and Drummond and I think they choose Drummond and trade Monroe I'm thinking Detroit might want parsons(prince replacement) 2pat(for depth at the 4) and delfino (bringing back the veteran)
Did I miss something? No way Det trades Monroe for cap reasons anytime soon because they have him as a restricted free agent in two years and have Drummond on a rookie salarie for this season and 3 more.
Monroe can play the 4 btw. I think Detroit is probably very excited about their young, talented twin towers. No reason to think they'd want to move Monroe. I'm gonna give them a little credit and not assume they're completely stupid. It's not easy to find one big to build around, let alone two.
Absolutely true - I posted as much when everyone was talking about getting Bosh .... and again last year during FA. I dont have search capabilities ... maybe someone who does can locate the posts. I think we've all been missing the mark on who Morey has his eye on in the coming offseason FA .... Nikola Pekovic. He's making $4.64m this season and will be an unrestricted FA. Probably one of the top 5 centers in the game .... Just seems like a guy Morey would have on his radar while the rest of us are concentrating on the more obvious "Stars". Asik is a movable part and Pekovic would be an upgrade. Asik's contract is easily moved and should net a solid return - possibly an upgrade at the 4 spot. Moving Asik , they could possibly make a run at both Pekovic and Josh Smith ..... No reason they couldnt keep both Asik and Pekovic either.

So, DMo and Smith are our best post players and they can't get any minutes? We really could use a little bit of help there and get some easier points in the paint rather than torpedoing our guards in there repeatedly. Is Morris that much better as a defender and rebounder?
Morey said the team is where they had hope to be (on pace for 45 wins). He still worries a lot about the Lakers making a run. Morey said D-Mo is almost too talented on offense and that the next step for him, other than getting bigger and playing defense without fouling will be having a plan offensively -- having one go-to moves with one or two counters, stating that that's what the best/most efficient post-players (Hakeem, Landry) do. The coaches think D-Mo is a bit ahead of Jones (better defensively, just by knowing where to be) and that they don't really know what they are going to get from Jones on a night to night basis. From what Morey understands if Harden were to miss the All-Star game by laegue rule he'd have to miss the next regular season game. Morey said the East vs. West disparity has been talked about in league meetings and that Stern doesn't want to change the current format. Morey wouldn't wouldn't change it himself either.
always such a great interview. Morey doesn't like movies with "volley ball and gladiator scenes". Hilarious. Note that he said that he wants to run into a GM this weekend that will offer him a trade to make the team better. This guy is always working to get us to contender status. We are very very lucky to have him. HEAR THAT MOREY HATERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Morey says he's conflicted. He can trade for Millsap now then re-sign him and flip him for K-Love, or he can trade for Dwight Howard now, but it would cost us Parsons, Asik, and Ppat. Come on, man. Where's my rep? You promised! (dramatic pause) Damn. OK, I can't hear it here at work either. Thanks to HMMMHMM for the update. Harden'll play, even if just to pull a Willis Reed (not that he's so badly hurt). It's in front of the home crowd.
I always hope someone asks him "which young player do you think is most likely to take that next step into super-stardom?"
Wtf, what kind of rule is that? well, it is commissar stern's league so in that sense the rule goes with basketball reasons. just weird rule.
"If you could run into one person this weekend, NBA related, who would you like to run into?" Morey: "I would say, i wanna run into the GM that's gonna.. you know.. that will.. maybe have a trade that will help us."
