When you watch Rockets games, do you believe they play with more or less effort than their opponents on average?

Do you see many signs of players on this team quitting on McHale? Or does it seem like they enjoy playing for McHale?

Do the Rockets play within the system, or do they play undisciplined basketball?

Do the Rockets play better than their talent? Or worse than their talent?

In short, what evidence is there that McHale's "throwing his players under the bus" has caused the Rockets to be inferior to other teams' chemistry.

for starters, lin's confidence has been in the gutter all season. it would be foolish to think that the coaching staff's words in public and benching in 4th quarters has not played a part in this.

What does this have to do with McHale post game press conferences where he doesn't take any blame?:confused:

    McCain, is this you?

Seriously, with a line up like this (Lin, Harden, Parson, PPat and Asik), they can play at the same level or better without the McCain. The players know their strength and their role, but McCain does not. McCain wants to change the players and make them do what they could not.

Just look at the starting Lineup. WHY Delfino  Everyone know he cannot handle the ball more than 2 to 3 seconds. He is a catch and shoot players.

Beverley or Anderson should start instead of Delfino. Sure, they might not have prove themselves, but after all, you need another ball handler in the game. If Lin got trapped, which is the case, it is guarantee a turn over.

If you haven't see what is Houston's problem, beside the coach, you should see it from today. There is no backup guards, at least no one that coach has confident in. Heck, coach don't even trust Lin.

well 2 things come to mind: 1) should he be pinning losses in public on a 1st year pg who is already under heavy media pressure and scrutiny to begin with and 2) if he is going to call out his players for what he perceives as in-game mistakes then shouldn't he also call out his own on occasion as well

let me post a question to you now.....do you feel that mchale has made any coaching mistakes (game strategy, substitutions, etc) in any games this season?

you had me at, "You anti-McHale posters are not the sharpest tools in the shed."

Your right they are idiots that border on being trolls. Youngest team in the league both in age, experience and by all rights should be at about 15 wins according to all the so called NBA experts during the pre-season. Instead they are at 29 wins, 3 games over .500 and in a play-off spot after having the hardest schedule in the West up to this point and the 5th hardest schedule in the NBA up to this point. The Rockets have the easiest schedule left among all Western Conference teams and are in the cat birds seat for the last play-off spot.

People should be marveling at the job Kevin McHale has done with this team, especially with basically no pre-season for this team to play with. Honestly I'm shocked this thread has not been locked but I'm guessing Clutch leaves it open so people can clearly see who many of the trolls and idiots are.

I'm still not seeing the result here. Have Jeremy Lin and his teammates looked like, or played like they are caving under pressure? Or have they withstood it and as a result playing better?

I don't know if you're a student or working. If you are a student, do you believe that any grade under 100 is failure? If you're working, do you believe you and those around you must make 100% correct decisions that maximize the effectiveness of the company. And if this perfect result is not achieved, you and every other worker should be fired for incompetence?

i'm also not following the logic you're putting forth here regarding mchale calling out the players...

whether the players still produce on the court could be simply because they are professionals or strong-willed or even because their mothers give them moral support before the games. it's seems like you're implying that mchale's jedi mind tricks are possibly making them more tough-minded and better on the court -- but i'll let you clarify and confirm that first...

also, i don't feel you've answered my question directly, or really at all. i mean basically you haven't answered if and what coaching errors mchale has made this season, you just responded to my question with a series of more questions of your own.

i will say though that i appreciate your engaging in dialogue, as opposed to Crash just calling people idiots and trolls..

No. I'm not saying McHale has jedi mind tricks. But you are contradicting yourself. If you believe the Rockets players are inherently strong-willed and/or have enough mental support elsewhere, why would they need McHale to coddle them and take blames?

If you make the assertion that that McHale's post-game press conference demeanor affects our players negatively, then you need to prove it by showing our players quitting on the team. Otherwise, I don't need to make any assumptions. I just care to watch the team play hard and play disciplined.

I didn't answer because I thought our conversation surrounds this statement made by you.

Whether or not McHale is a genius subsitution guy or Xs and Os guy I don't care to debate. Because I dislike criticizing with 20/20 hindsight on decisions that you can't prove are right or wrong.

However, I don't see a team acts like their coach throws them under the bus all the time. I don't see a team that blames their coach for losses and play below standard as a result. I see our players trying hard and running hard, much better than I'd expect from a group of players in their lower 20s.

just one instance: at denver, i'd have to say that his decision to go smallball at the end of the 3rd and into the 4th was definitely up for criticism, and was called by many here during the game and not in hindsight.

this is completely subjective, and not really in line with some of the lackluster efforts our big men have put forth in many games, not to mention harden's lack of attention on D and lin's lack of focus some games. it's really impossible to say how the team would be playing if mchale coached differently or how they would respond to another coach. but essentially saying that you're happy with being 3 games above .500 based on the team's age and how you perceive the level of their talent. whereas i see several games this season that were very winable and turned into losses in large part due to the coaching. and i also see lin playing without confidence and being restrained from being able to create with the ball in his hands.

The first thing a company asks when you apply for a job is how much work experience you had for the position you're applying for and what was your track record working at this position?

Other candidates will likewise be evaluated based on this criteria that is if the criteria is merit and fitness and the playing field is level.

The only reason he was asked to coach the timberwolves is because he was such a failure at the General Manager position and assembled a very poor lineup. Also many wolves fans suspected that he gave an "assist" to the celtics by sending Kevin Garnett in exchange for Al Jefferson. It was Mchale and Danny Ainge working the phones to make that trade happen.

His track record as wolves coach was likewise not that good.

We can safely say the hiring of Adelman was based on merit , fitness, work experience and Track record. The hiring of Mchale was most probably his former association with the Boston Celtics which was the team Morey was working for before being hired by the Rockets.

Does anybody know the answer to this question? I thought I saw somewhere on CF that the Rockets have a choice if they want to keep him on next season.

Like I said, I'm not going to bother debating this since it's worthless endeavor.

You signed up to this board in 2000, so I assume you have been watching NBA at least since that time. In all those years, are you telling me that Rudy T, JVG, and Adelman all got our young players to never slack off?

Correct. Especially because we've had the 3rd hardest schedule in the NBA so far.

So this has never happened when we were coached by Rudy T, JVG, or Adelman?

The Rockets don't have rigid offensive sets. It's a read-and-react system where the player with the ball makes the read and then make a decision. Jeremy Lin has the ball at least once on almost every possession, and generally he's the player who makes the initial decision to pass or dribble.

Everyone plays the same way, whether it's Parsons or Delfino or Harden or Lin. If Lin feels that on any given play that the best decision is to defer, why would the coach be responsible for his failings?

uh if you insist on having to limit discussion to only what you deem relevant, and then ask series of questions while refusing to answer even one yourself, then quite frankly i'd rather trade posts with Crash

Any and all statements about line ups, substitution patterns, X's and O's is just rampant biased unfounded speculation on the part of posters on Clutch. There is no incident that can be singled out that shows that McHale is a bad coach because there is no other tactical solution that can be proved to work. You may dispute a play call, but under no circumstances can you ever prove anything you suggest would have worked. In addition there are no qualified posters in this forum on the subject of coaching a NBA team.

    Description of Appeal to Authority

This fallacy is committed when the person in question is not a legitimate authority on the subject. More formally, if person A is not qualified to make reliable claims in subject S, then the argument will be fallacious.

so i guess likewise nothing can be cited to suggest mchale is an effective coach either, and even if it could be cited, none of the 'posters on Clutch' would be qualified to cite such

ergo, mchale is neither good nor bad (nor even in between because it is impossible to prove that as well). he is just there. all we can do is acknowledge his omnipresence -- and that's all folks ;)
