You anti-McHale posters are not the sharpest tools in the shed. A very young team, without much NBA experience, several years away from their primes, playing against one of the 4 best teams in the NBA in an away game without their all-star. Did you expect a win? Are you delusional? Are you afflicted with a terminal case of homerism? McHale is the perfect coach for the Rockets. Why? Just look at their performance. The team is playing hard every minute on the floor. They are gaining valuable BB knowledge. Every phase of their game is gradually improving. The team seems to have a great relationship with the coaching staff. There is not one person posting on this forum who is qualified to be an assistant coach in the NBA, much less a head coach. We, as fans, are generally bereft of knowledge because the coaching staff does not share the results of practices, advanced metrics, and analysis of players with us. Basically we are kept clueless. And just look at who are the McHale detractors. Mostly people so new they could be termed trolls. And without an innate understanding of the nuances of the game. SirKen Since: Dec 2012 tor.rocks Since: Nov 2012 sugrlndkid Since: Apr 2012 NL Rocket Since: Aug 2012 DaDakota Infamous on this board. Posted much better on ***** when he was forced to leave. An inexperienced group of posters, and then DD. LOL mentioning other Rockets forums here gets asterisked out?
I didn't watch the game because I was busy, but I don't know how on earth people could have expected a win tonight. You are beyond delusional if you did. Clutch is slowly picking the rowdy LOFs off on this board and they are making the best case for doing so in this thread.
So just 2 months after you? I can understand this post if you're a 99er. But your join date is Dec 2011... LOL
Haha wow...I've openly said on numerous occassions I think McHale is too harshly criticized at times. I've openly said people are too harsh on him with Lin and the rotations. However...it still doesn't mean he's done a spectacular job. A bad job? Of course not. But a GREAT job? Not quite. Me saying that Mchale has been "uninspiring" does not make me a troll. Anybody else voicing an opinion that differs from yours does not make them a troll either...and lastly...the date somebody decides to join Clutchfans does not determine who's "experienced" as a basketball fan or not...
And LOLOLOLOL so wait let me get this straight.... You join December 2011, making you an all-knowing, wise sage of basketball knowledge...and I join 3 months later and I'm immedietely deemed "inexperienced"... You sir...are FUNNY
And you are completely right. I should have paid more attention to the number of posts and rep. You are doing just fine. So apologies.
Dude, I was very disappointed with the hiring of him as well, he is a big step down from Adelman, so the fact I have to defend him means he is getting unfair criticism. The FO wanted to run things and have most of the say in team affairs and that is why they picked Mchale. As far as individual coaching goes he hasn't done a great job, but hasn't done a terrible job either. These paranoid delusional LOF on this board keep looking for a scapegoat.
D-Mo gets burn and he looks like a signficantly greater impact player than Marcus Morris. BUT OH NO THE ROOKS AREN'T READY YET CAUSE THEY DON'T PLAY DEFENSE. Brb Mooks doesn't box-out, loses his man, gets abused by bigger PFs posting him up and commits D-League travels every game.
I like DMO more than Morris...but a larger sample size is needed. Morris has had many games where he was very effective as well.
So basically what we have here is some people think McHale has been doing a horrible job. Some people think he's doing a great job. I consider myself a reasonable person. As such, I would say that a reasonable person would think that the truth, per usual, is somewhere in between - meaning, McHale is doing just an OK job; he is neither awful nor is he great. All of this is funny and ironic because Lin and McHale are probably more alike than different. The biggest similarity being, they share the unfortunate trait of having extreme fans and extreme haters. And of course Lin has just about the same amount of experience as a player as McHale as a head coach. At the moment, both are pretty much average at what they do. Given time, both will probably get better.
It's true that we don't/shouldn't expect a win against Clippers, but saying Mchale is the perfect coach is just r****ded. Sometimes lesser teams can steal a win from a much better team. This is game of basketball, where anything can happen. Wizards took a game off of Heat before, does that mean they are better than Heat by your logic? We're not frustrated we lost to the Clippers, we're frustrated in the manner we're losing such games because we know that some games were winnable if we just had an AVERAGE-level coach. A lot of people here have kept up with almost all the games, and we know that Mchale's lousy rotations, way-too-late timeouts, post-interview player demoralizing-blame shifting has shown that he's a terrible coach. He likes to keep both Lin and Harden off the floor at the same time, and use Harden to play the point while Lin becomes a ball-deferring spot-up shooter. It's like he's intentionally ignoring the player's best traits. He takes out players when they're hot until they become stone cold, and prefers too much iso-Harden over PnR with screens. Yes we don't know about the insides of the team, but we do know what we're watching - the performance of the team on the court. That's more than enough to judge that Mchale has been a terrible coach. His poor track record doesn't really help him either. Btw, there are lots of non-2012 users who want Mchale to get fired. Bringing up the post date is irrelevant.
I have long suspected that the coaches don't know guards' game well enough and tend to oversimplify things at both ends. For example, Smith and DMo really shined at PnR when they first played. However I didn't see many PnR with Smith at later games. Simple pass, reckless driving, 3 balls and 1 on 1 defense may not be enough against good teams. We really need to keep developing PnR between our fast guards and our bigs. It took 7 losses for the coaches to let 2Pat take midrange shots. Smith a 4 was playing 5, morris a 3 playing 4....
For the people who think he's a good coach, tell me why isn't McHale ever taking responsibility for a loss?
this is also exactly my biggest question about him, but i haven't posted it as of late just to avoid apologist brigade in here. i really can't think of any other head coach who's never admitted any of his coaching errors following a loss. and what's worse is how mchale routinely throws players under a bus, essentially making them a scapegoat for a loss in public.
