now a lot of people loves Rudy Gay again. 2 weeks ago, nobody want him. When he was traded from Houston to Memphis, Houston was a contender and we needed a strong defender like Battier. Gay was very young, and it took him 6 years to be a top 50 player. Houston couldn't wait so much, and we move the horrible Stomile Swift contract btw. Another story is, if we drafted Rondo (Rondo>>>>> Alston, and Rondo was NBA ready) or if we moved up in the draft to pick Brandon Roy (It was a strong rumour) Alston Tmac roy Scola Ming And now off course Gay is overpaid, but he is a top 50 player now, and Toronto doesn't have bad contract (only Bagnani) so enjoy winning It is a terrible trade for Memphis breaking a champioship team

Somebody WILL come in and say that his 11 points, no matter how inefficient they were, were the reason the Raptors won the game.
Rudy Gay showing he's on Melo's level. Gay: 4 for 21 Melo: 5 for 21 Gay has to shoot better to be considered elite. Still has too many horrendous shooting nights
He has to do A LOT of things better to be considered elite. He's good, but he's not great by any stretch.
It's no coincidence that the Raptors are beating teams and have a 5-2 record since Rudy Gay joined the club. They've been competitive in every contest during that 7 game stretch, the game against the Heat was much closer than the final score indicates. They also have quality road wins at Indiana and NY. Despite Gay's lack of scoring tonight, he did other things to help his team win. He had a team high in assists and was second on the team in rebounding. I also noticed him guarding Melo and Felton at times and neither of those two had a particularly good game. None of this even touches on how Rudy Gay and the attention he commands opens up opportunities for guys like DeRozan and Anderson. Scoreboard!
Kobe scored 4 points last game. Its normal. Now I don't see anyone doubting Kobe's ability after a bad shooting night. In fact, a shooting night of 4-2x is just an everyday thing for Kobe whereas Rudy is pretty efficient most of the time. Rudy's talent is better than everyone on the Rockets apart from Harden. The guy's one of the best SF's in the league.
Cant wait for the raptors to play small more regularly. I just want to see Derozan, Ross and Gay playing at the 2,3,4.
After becoming the starter, this has happened once. Kobe has had 3 games in his entire career where he went <4fgs and >20fgas.
If he averages 5ppg for the rest of his career, would you stop sucking his nuts? Rudy Gay career high: 41 points, only 40+ game of his 486 game career.
If he had done so, you think it would justify or invalidate anything we've been saying about him? It really wouldn't - that's the point we've been driving home in the consequence of grinding ol Kwame and his infinite wisdom (SHANE BATTIER WILL NEVER WIN A TITLE CAUSE HE SUCKS!) into the dirt. THe persons here who are in love with the small sample size are the Gay Right-ists who show up a few times a season for the past few years (more or less 1 out of every 4 or 5 games) when he does something noteworthy. Refusing to admit they were wrong about the Gay trade being not really such a bad deal for the Rockets after all (I was clearly wrong back then...and have since come to terms). They've been popping up quite a bit lately to celebrate each mini-triumph. The problem of course with their appearnace is that the remaining 80% of the time they're nowhere to be found. This is why Rudy Gay was sold off for spare parts and cap room in the prime of his career. This thread isn't an argument, there's no disagreement here. Everybody knows what he is at this point.
I remember watching some Memphis games back then in Gay's 1st and 2nd year. He was simply not good. Low percentage volume shooter and horrible defender. Why anyone would suggest he'd have helped us when it mattered(Yao/T-Mac healthy) is beyond me. Long term wise, I'm sure he would be better than Battier since we could not win during the T-Mac/Yao window. But trading for Battier was the right move. Our biggest mistake of that draft in hindsight was not this trade, but the trade that did not materialize with the Wolves and Brandon Roy. THAT was the trade that may have changed the fortunes of the team.
Man...I used to really be a Rudy Gay supporter, but when people say things like this it becomes so hard to do... 1) Kobe scoring 4 points is not normal. His shooting night that night was one of about 3 instances in his entire career. 2) If you're trying to compare Kobe's ability to Rudy Gay's ability, and the things they've proven to date, you're a damned fool. Rudy Gay isn't even in the same discussion as Kobe. 3) Once again...I can tell you don't pay much attention to the NBA because Kobe's night that night was one of about 3 instances where that happened. 4) Rudy Gay's TALENT is definitely better than everybody on the Rockets. Hell...it's probably better than Harden's! Too bad Rudy Gay doesn't realize that potential. 5) In terms of talent...Rudy Gay is one of the best small forwards in the NBA. If you're talking talent + production + efficiency + contract, then he is simply above average. SF's better than Rudy Gay taking all of those into account: Lebron, Durant, Pierce, Luol Deng, Iguodala, Carmelo, Parsons, arguably Batum, arguably Granger when healthy. Once again...I like Rudy Gay, and I've always thought the Rockets should have kept him instead of trading him for Battier, but that doesn't mean I'm blind from what he's done in the league.
At the very least, the notion that Gay would have helped in 2007 is completely ridiculous. Maybe he would have helped in 08-09 when we took the Lakers to 7, but we weren't title contenders really. That was a trade that really worked the way both teams wanted. We also got out of the remainder of Stromile Swift's contract.
