I'm guessing they were going to foul him and put him on the line for 2 shots, so he probably actually got the best shot possible in that situation

I've always thought Jennings would be gone by the deadline after they didn't reach an agreement over the summer. After he's traded, watch him go full-blast and play out of his mind the rest of the season.
I saw this yesterday and had a good chuckle. Obviously this is all coming from the Mavs mouthpieces, but it doesn't mean it might not be a posibility for the Mavs to acquire him if the Bucks management is dumb enough to get suckered in. This could seriously be the best thing to happen to the Rockets & other teams alike in the West, if the Mavericks shell out big dollars to someone like Jennings out of desperation to get Dirk in the playoffs again. The best thing that could happen to the Rockets is if the Mavericks(one of the few teams with caproom)are no longer a player(from a cap space angle) to acquire the next "James Harden type" of player that hits the trade market. Thats going to be key to setting up the Rockets as the team with the ability to make such a move. -Also, I think they will have to acquire Jennings VIA free agency by offering more than the Bucks are willing to pay which isn't the max or they would have just went ahead and worked out an extension at the beginning of this training camp. However, what I think Cuban is trying to do here is threaten the Bucks by saying they will offer big bucks in free agency in order to force their hand next week in trading Jennings for scraps. That way they hold the ability to just strickly match the first offer that Jennings recieves. Now lets look at the power or matching Jennings as a RFA- The only teams with max cap space this Summer will be Houston, Dallas, Phoenix, Cleveland, Utah, Detroit, and Atlanta. Since Houston, Phoenix, Detroit, and Cleveland all have their starting PG position wrapped up for the future, the only team's I see possibly making a run at Jennings in free agency are Utah, and Atlanta. And both of those teams probably dont see much of an upgrade from who they could both easily bring back next year (Williams, Teague). So Dallas' thinking here must be to threaten the Bucks with the notion that they will max him out next Summer so they take a lowball offer like - Collison(expiring), Crowder or Cunningham + 2 future picks & Cash for Jennings Because that's seriously the best offer Dallas could give... not very enticing IMO. They only make a move like this out of the notion that they are letting him walk in free agency. IMO, for the same reasons I listed above about potential suitors with cap space... If Im the Bucks GM, I call their bluff, hold on to Jennings, and hope to match a low offer this Summer.
Collison is argually on par with Jennings. I think the Mavs should just stick with Collison and let him develop.
I don't understand why some people clown the guy for seeking a max contract. He's a young, competitive guy with game and he probably believes he's one of the top pg's in the game so of course he but more importantly HIS AGENT is probably seeking the max as much if not more than him. If you represented Jennings would you tell him "Brandon you're a good player and all but you're not max worthy let's set the asking price for around $8-10 Million". Hell no. Whether he's a chucker or not wouldn't you try to get the most money as well by setting the asking price high first and then negotiating from there. I know I would. Show me the money!

the difference is what you identified, we're not his agent, so we can laugh when a guy who obviously isn't worth a max deal asks for one, even if it's just posturing.
