You are assuming that National Guardsmen (and women) would attack their fellow Americans if ordered to. All military men and women swear an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution, and I have no doubt many of them would rather fight against what had to be to that point, a tyrannical government.

Weapons can also be used as a deterrent, see the Cold War for details. Armed citizens make governments think twice. Plain and simple.

If the military would not fight against people fighting against the govt. Then there isn't a need for the firearms anyway.

Though we know that local police have blown up an entire neighborhood in Philly and were willing to kill those innocent women and children. It's a tall order to believe that they wouldn't fight against armed resistance against the govt. Sure there would likely be some defections.

Back to the original topic. Restricting guns and magazine size etc is the answer unless sybernaut and the like can prove that Americans are genetically mutated to be homicidal.

All their other silly excuses fail. Video games etc.

Never said all of them would or wouldn't comply. It isn't as easy a discussion as that and you know it.

The answer to what? Reducing gun violence? Why not make attempts at broader strokes to reduce violence as a whole?

because you have some crazy imams out there preaching violence.

How can we even talk about guns when we should really talk about Islam-control. Take AKbar 47's off our streets!

I couldn't care less about Islam-control, but certainly think there are other avenues to reduce violence as a whole, perhaps understand the roots of the violence and give some people a hand.

The funny thing about the gun nuts blaming movies and video games is every country has access to those same games and movies but they don't have the same gun violence because they don't have access to the GUNS.

It isn't just the gun nuts blaming movies and video games, it is idiots on both sides of the aisle.

You say this as if we all experience and are affected by things in exactly the same way as one another...

I just find it interesting for people to wholly support unfettered access to deadly weapons in the second amendment while decrying the freedom entailed in the first amendment. You can buy an AR15 at Walmart but watch out for those movies.

Hundreds of millions of people play violent video games and watch violent movies and TV shows. Could these possibly set off something in a crazy person's head? Sure, but so could watching Teletubbies. These anomalies are not quantifiable, so they should not be part of the conversation. That's the point, there is no way to correlate any of those claims to these madmen.

I agree completely. It is simply anti-gun people blaming everything but society, and the pro-gun people deflecting blame off of the guns themselves. Both do nothing but cloud the waters with wasted rhetoric.

false on both counts "gun expert". The barrel is by far the most complicated part of the gun to make as well as a factory made firearm. It requires the tightest tolerances and special technique.

anyways it isn't an issue. You can buy barrels without any paper work. There is only one part on the gun that is considered the firearm and it is the part with the serial number.

hmmm, actually that is when you most need a standard capacity mag. When you are scared for your life and are not in a great state of mind to swap mags, while possibly defending yourself against multiple attackers.

On the other hand, a guy who plans to kill many people in cold blood will be calm and be able to do mag swaps easily and quickly. The fight will be on his terms and everyone except him will be scared and cowering. Limiting him from 15 to 10 rounds will have much less of an effect than a person acting in self defense. How hard is it for a mass killer to have a backpack of 10 round mags compared to the average joe having more than even one mag.

the whole world isn't full of americans. it's a typical american sentiment to believe the world works the same way as it does here in america.

You are missing the point entirely as per lusual. If you make your own gun here, you don't need to file any paperwork and it is legal. In other countries it is still illegal so making your own offers no advantage to buying an illegal gun.

They have also been systematically trained to follow orders and that the President is the commander in chief. That you are assuming a mass mutiny is comical.

Take the military out of the equation. A handful of individuals do not have the firepower to take on the HPD.

The better question is...why do you feel you need an extended magazine? The Constitution does not guarantee you access to them. In fact, looking at the time in which it as written, the Constitution guarantees that you can own a freaking musket. If you can load and pack it before I can get away, by all means shoot me.

A barrel is worthless if the mechanics can't put the round through the chamber and out a barrel. Like you said, no paperwork is needed for a barrel and a decent machine shop can easily turn barrels all day long, especially with automated lathe and milling machines... so again, I stand by my point.

3D printers aren't limited to America, and it is ridiculous to think that others around the world won't use them to produce weapons.

They aren't machines, they are humans... and I have no doubt that many of them would refuse to attack their fellow Americans, considering the people they would be fighting could very well be their loved ones.

You say a handful of people don't know how to take out the HPD? Did you not see what happened in LA last week? A SINGLE MAN took on the entire LAPD. That single man had nothing to lose, which made him a formidable enemy regardless of his firepower. This is the same reason terrorists are effective combatants against the strongest military powers in the world.

I feel I need an extended magazine because in a matter of self defense it could very well be life or death.

If extended magazines weren't effective, then why do the police use them? If they can take down someone that means them harm with a low capacity magazine, why do they carry more than 10 rounds? That's right, because you never know what a particular situation will call for. Like, this story from last week where a store owner defended himself with a 17-round magazine... which likely saved his life.

People need to remember that the Constitution creates no right and gives no right. Rather it protects and recognizes our natural (read God given) rights.

Alternatively, the Constitution allowed access to the most cutting edge military hardware available.
