He had a great fundamental skill set, something That lacks more and more in the current league. OT could box out anyone and played sound ball, knew his role and ate it up.
You shut your mouth when you are talking to me.... OT is one of my all time favorites, 14 PPG and 9 RBPG... (remember Hakeem would fight his own team for rebounds) He was rock solid. Loved that guy.
Also one of the highest field goal percentages in the NBA every year he played. He would have most certainly been a Daryl Morrey kind of guy.
Yes! He was a pure power forward, meanin he played his position to da T, by da book, he was NOT a swingman, a tweener, a point forward or any of that new jack stuff, he played down in da low blocks, banged wit bigs, defended da post, compleminted our star center, rebounded his ass off, boxed out and dunked wit authority, you know, OLD SCHOOL 4. I miss him so much, he was a joy to watch Some lil known OT FACTS: * OT was drafted 9th overall in da 84' draft * He hold da Houston Rockets record for all time field goal pct at 55.9% * He was a NBA west all star in 1992 wit Hakeem * He averaged 20/10 in sacramento da year before he was signed by Houston * He averaged 60% FG in his ROOKIE year wit da Kings
The ideal image of a PF, legit 6'10 and 250. Had those huge shoulders and knew how to use them. Also had those huge hands. I remember his long one handed outlet passes. He literally looked like a quarterback looking to throw to a receiver for a 50 yard pass.
For the record : You're the ONLY POSTERS here who even mentioned "that", or brought that up here. NO ONE else did, no one else is to blame for agitating anything. That all came from within. Dont ruin my OT nostalgia trip with this stuff
dude, i'm right about some fans never seeing a Rocket player play 82 games for like 4 straight years Iron Man > Fake superheroes
I love OT. Just out of curiosity - does anybody ever remember OT taking a jump shot?? I watched a lot of Rockets games back then, and I don't remember ever seeing him shoot a jump shot.....
Yes. I think he hit 3 jumpshots his entire career. One was in practice. 1:09 of this video shows one of the other 2 : *EDIT* : Hilarity at 1:53 of the video... is that Mutombo?
Possibly OT's best game (vs Alonzo Mourning and Larry Johnson) http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/199312070HOU.html look at the 74% shooting
Basi Starters MP FG FGA FG% 3P 3PA 3P% FT FTA FT% ORB DRB TRB AST STL BLK TOV PF PTS Otis Thorpe 36:00 14 19 .737 0 0 12 12 1.000 3 4 7 2 0 1 4 6 40 Kenny Smith 34:00 9 14 .643 1 4 .250 1 2 .500 0 5 5 3 0 0 0 2 20 Vernon Maxwell 29:00 3 11 .273 1 4 .250 3 4 .750 0 4 4 7 4 0 3 0 10 Robert Horry 29:00 4 7 .571 0 2 .000 1 2 .500 2 1 3 1 1 1 0 2 9 Hakeem Olajuwon 26:00 5 9 .556 0 0 3 6 .500 0 7 7 3 2 4 1 5 13 Reserves MP FG FGA FG% 3P 3PA 3P% FT FTA FT% ORB DRB TRB AST STL BLK TOV PF PTS Carl Herrera 21:00 3 6 .500 0 0 0 0 0 4 4 0 0 1 0 3 6 Mario Elie 19:00 3 5 .600 0 1 .000 0 0 0 2 2 5 2 0 3 1 6 Matt Bullard 19:00 2 4 .500 2 4 .500 0 0 1 2 3 1 0 0 0 0 6 Scott Brooks 14:00 1 3 .333 0 0 2 3 .667 0 1 1 2 1 0 2 1 4 Sam Cassell 5:00 2 2 1.000 0 0 0 0 0 3 3 1 1 0 2 0 4 Eric Riley 5:00 1 1 1.000 0 0 1 2 .500 0 1 1 1 0 0 1 1 3 Richard Petruska 3:00 0 1 .000 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 0 1 1 2 0 Team Totals 240 47 82 .573 4 15 .267 23 31 .742 6 34 40 27 11 8 17 23 121

Basi Starters MP FG FGA FG% 3P 3PA 3P% FT FTA FT% ORB DRB TRB AST STL BLK TOV PF PTS Hersey Hawkins 38:00 9 16 .563 2 4 .500 4 4 1.000 0 6 6 3 1 1 1 3 24 Larry Johnson 37:00 3 13 .231 0 0 2 3 .667 3 5 8 6 0 1 3 5 8 Tony Bennett 33:00 2 9 .222 1 2 .500 0 0 0 3 3 7 2 0 0 3 5 Alonzo Mourning 30:00 7 12 .583 0 0 8 11 .727 2 5 7 3 1 0 5 5 22 Johnny Newman 24:00 7 12 .583 0 1 .000 2 2 1.000 1 1 2 2 0 0 3 2 16 Reserves MP FG FGA FG% 3P 3PA 3P% FT FTA FT% ORB DRB TRB AST STL BLK TOV PF PTS Dell Curry 23:00 5 9 .556 1 1 1.000 0 0 0 1 1 1 2 0 3 2 11 Kenny Gattison 18:00 2 6 .333 0 0 0 1 .000 2 2 4 0 0 0 1 4 4 Eddie Johnson 14:00 3 6 .500 0 0 2 2 1.000 1 0 1 2 0 0 1 0 8 LeRon Ellis 13:00 0 4 .000 0 0 0 0 2 5 7 0 0 0 0 0 0 Scott Burrell 6:00 1 3 .333 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 2 0 0 0 1 2 Mike Gminski 4:00 1 2 .500 0 0 0 0 0 1 1 0 1 0 0 0 2 Team Totals 240 40 92 .435 4 8 .500 18 23 .783 11 29 40 26 7 2 17 25 102
Charlotte Hornets 102 Houston Rockets 121 December 7, 1993
