2 page essay. I have no idea what "Plato's Divided Line" is. I tried Google and wiki but I just can't understand the concept. Our professor sent us this link but I can't seem to get the grip: <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/W4OHmXdC3iM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Much love and rep for help
Interesting question. My first thought was wondering if the professor expected someone to turn in two pages of hieroglyphics instead of words. As to your question, keep developing those Google skills. What you seek is out there.
This is exactly what I wanted to post. "Man, can someone tell me what to write for school? Teach gave me a ridiculous topic. I googled it and there was nothing that helped on the first page. Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1"
It sounds like all you have to do is write an outline of Plato's divided line of knowledge. Just find the written word of this and write the summary of it. Sounds like a simple essay if you just find some Plato stuff. Good luck.
Seems pretty self explanatory to me, and the way this professor has the assignment structured, it sounds like he wants you to parrot the information back to him. There are 4 levels to platos dividing line. Level 1 is images. Images are the basic level of plato's dividing line and incorporate what we see. Blah blah blah. The degree of reality is an organizing mechanism meant to illustrate the level of abstraction associated with each level of knowledge. In the case of images, plato believes that it obscures accurate knowledge because of .... In real life we see examples of this in such in such,
Your professor mentions in his video that there's a book you guys can read. Maybe you should pull that out first, so you'll know what your professor wants each level to be named. Some sites on the internet differ from each other in the naming of the four levels. Based on a cursory scanning of the topic, my understanding of the Divided Line is that seeing or imagining is not understanding. One site on the internet lists the four levels as Imagining, Belief, Thinking, and Intelligence. To give an example, (sorry for the terrible example), say a guy in Taiwan who has never watched an NBA game and has no basketball knowledge hears his friends gushing about how good Jeremy Lin is and that he's the best player in the NBA. 1. He imagines Jeremy Lin is the best player in the NBA and knows nothing about Lin other than what his friends have told him through words. This would be the first level of Plato's Divided Line. 2. He watches a couple of NBA games. Based on his common sense, he believes that Lin is better than Steve Blake, and he also believes that Lin is not the best player in the NBA and is not one of the top 10 Point Guards in the NBA. However, he isn't able to distinguish the difference between Lin and players like Kyle Lowry. This is the second level of Plato's Divided Line. 3. He gains more basketball knowledge and starts to look at sites like Synergy sports. He starts thinking and analyzing Lin's game and the game of other NBA players. Now, he is able to more accurately rank Lin among players like Goran Dragic and Mike Conley, but his rankings aren't precise to the level of perfection. This is the third level of Plato's Divided Line. 4. He dies and becomes one with the universe. In this form, he finally gains the intelligence to grasp Jeremy Lin's existence and the game of basketball. He is now able to perfectly rank Lin in the whole echelon of Point Guards. This is the fourth and final level of Plato's Divided Line. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is the best I could come up with.
I wish you were my professor. I hate dual-credit classes. Thank you for helping me. You don't know how long i have put off this paper because I didn't get the whole difference between Knowledge and Beliefs. Thank you again.
Belief is your opinion about something based on your experience. Knowledge is seeing it for what it is, the truth about it. Understanding it at the deepest level. I like his interpretation of the highest level. It really intrigues me that Plato hinted at the fact that humans can not reach that level.
There are philosophy classes in High School? What the hell. Katy ISD sucks, I wanted to take a philosophy class.
