I can't remember the last time I've been with a group and everyone paid equal amounts, regardless of what they ordered. I'm not chipping-in for my friends 5 drinks when my wife didn't have any. Sorry if that makes us unsophisticated.

i do know a group like this. they eat out all the time and everyone splits regardless of who ordered what. oh well, i'm not paying $40 when i only eat $15 worth of food so i usually choose to not join them and when i do join them i end of resenting it. the company is great but i shouldn't have to pay for other people's indulgence.

and if i order appetizers i will share them and i have no problems paying for it myself. it's a douche bag move to say, "hey man, you ate two of the cheese sticks so you should chip in."

Pay for what you order. I can't imagine splitting evenly without regard to what each person ordered.

If a waitress at Applebee's is making nearly as much as your wife (a nurse), then your wife must be the ****tiest nurse in North America.

I don't have a problem with tipping waiters/waitresses. I DO have a problem tipping delivery drivers. These days, most places have a ******* delivery charge up the ass on top of other bs charges (some places do anyway). I don't tip by percentages anymore for delivery drivers. It's just stupid to me that yes even though gas prices are higher, delivery charges (which really didn't exist before) are now in place and they still expect us to tip the same way we used to. I have no problem tipping a driver, but if they're going to hustle me with that delivery charge bull**** too, they aren't going to receive much of a tip from me.

As long as I get a smile and decent service, I'll tip 15-20%. To be honest though, I tend to over tip sometimes simply because I know the waitresses rely on them. I wish the system would change.

I don't really like restaurants, I mainly go to cafes and pick up waitresses, so to me it's all about how tight that booty is. I love clowning around and playing grab ass so when I meet servers who can play off whatever I throw at them, I normally tip 50%. I guess Im naturally generous. But if the server is useless or really sweaty, I won't tip. It is a bit like prostitution, but the exchange of goods and services is as old as man himself.

Nurses aren't compensated on performance.

I used to do the payroll for a small restaurant with similar pricing, and I used to get pissed that some of the servers made more than I was making as an accountant. Granted I was severely underpaid at the time, but $15-$20/hour is what a lot of them make.

The delivery fee is intended to compensate the driver for fuel. It's usually 1 or 2 dollars. It's not a tip. The driver is Depreciating his Vehicle And paying for fuel. His/her service is more worthy of a tip than a waiter.

Why is it my problem if ppl pick a ****ty proffesion. I'm not tipping Bc of what these ppl have to deal with, it's their choice, no one is forcing them to wait on ppl or use their cars to deliver food.

My take on appetizers with a group is if I want one, I'll order it, share and pay for it at the end.

The driver doesn't get any of the delivery fee. They do get minimum wage plus an amount per delivery. They amount they receive often would be lucky to cover gas alone.

More than anything the delivery fee is to compensate the employer for having those extra staff people just to deliver.

Are you supposed to tip at car washes, like Mister or Bubbles? I've always wondered about this.

For somebody that washes, cleans, or dries your car? Typically people do, though I don't think its necessary. Drying my car with a towel does not deserve more than minimum wage. Doing a good job cleaning my car warrants more, IMO.

They all share the money. Now that is something that I believe in tipping. Always drop a five spot in this situation.

I agree to a certain extent. I do believe in tipping great service but I don't believe it should be considered the norm. If your a waiter you shouldn't be pulling in close to 90k a year at fogo de chao but that's normal

    Hmmm...

I don't got to non-self serve car washes, but interesting to know.

What do you tip the vallet or bellhop? It is always my toughest decision. I strongly prefer to park myself and carry my own bags, but sometimes you don't really have a choice.
