Some people thought he was diamond in the rough wasting away on the Thunder bench. Turns out he just sucked.
I wish we could package Jone, Morris, White, TD and Ostrich for KG. Imagine him mentoring Asik, D-MO, Ppat and Smith
He makes 2.4M a year and is by far the most disappointing of any player on our team. The good thing is that he won't be with us much longer because he's either getting traded soon or they are going to show him the door of Toyota center at the end of the year!
Aldrich isn't a good player, but calling any of our players a "piece of ****" is just not what Rocket fans should be doing. Criticize the way he plays the game if you want, but calling our players disparaging names is just classless. Aldrich may not be good, but I think he does give effort and is a good teammate, so for that I respect him.
Seconded. I'm reminded of the Brian Scalabrine challenge. I'm sure Aldrich is better than anyone on this board, at least. Try calling him a POS to his face. I bet you'll be running up with your cell phone to pose for a photo with him instead. This board is getting weird--or I'm getting old. According to CF, Aldrich is a POS, Lin and Parsons are gay, Harden's nickname should be Boner, and then there's Royce White. . . .
Bravo! Also, to answer the thread starter's question, if you actually had to call anyone that (which you should not, see above), that would be Royce White...oops, he is not really in the NBA.
People are jealous of him earning $2.5M by doing nothing. Again, Brian Cook was earning $3.5M by shooting 30%. Brian Cook was way worse than Aldrich.
When he plays he plays hard and thats all I ask for... its just unfortunate he's not as athletic as the rest of his peers
Why are we playing him over Greg Smith? He is SORRY and his trade value goes down by playing seriously dont say that crap "His playing time is for his trade value to go up" because seriously who wants him? NOBODY
Way over the top with the POS thing. But he demonstrated absolutely zero discernible basketball skills last night. He'll be out of a job soon if he doesn't get a lot better.
Because he will not be a Rocket next year, and the Rockets need to move him in the next two weeks. He's a more experienced player who has been much more coached up in his prior years. He knows where to be, and how the defense is supposed to react. Nobody is saying he's going to do a decent job at spelling Asik for 15 minutes a game, but you probably know what you are getting each night more than you are with Smith. Smith will most likely be an important part of the rotation next year(when this team really needs to take a huge step forward), and needs to work on quite a few aspects of his game that are going to be relied upon in the future. Any fan on this site that is freaking out about Aldrich getting PT over Smith is thinking very short sighted. Smith will be a better player moving forward after this experience, and the Rockets will hopefully get SOMETHING for Aldrich here in the next two weeks if they can move him at the deadline.
I haven't read this entire thread but wanted to chime in to express what apparently is the minority view. First off, I agree with everyone that Cole Aldrich is not a very good NBA player. However, neither is Cole Aldrich as terrible as most are making him out to be, nor is he nearly as much to blame for last night's loss as most are making this out. Maybe I need to re-watch the game, but watching it in real time, I thought Aldrich was only responsible for maybe 2-3 of the COUNTLESS offensive rebounds that the Kings got last night with Omer Asik on the bench. Heck, during Aldrich's first stint of minutes, I thought he was actually doing a GOOD job on the defensive boards. Cole was the only Rockets player boxing out his man. Several times, the reason Cole didn't get to the ball to rebound was because he was busy putting a body on his man (Hayes, usually), but it seemed NO ONE ELSE was boxing out their guy. Therefore, other Kings players were free to run to the ball, just outside of Aldrich's reach. Again, I'm not saying that Aldrich couldn't have done a significantly better job on the defensive glass. But to those using this game as an example of how terrible he is, they better re-watch the game and start pointing fingers at the other 4 Rockets players on the court with Cole. Just my opinion, though.
Most likely he's playing because he's our second best defensive rebounder. He had 5 in 13 minutes last night. When Asik is out of the game, we have a problem on the defensive boards.
