Way better. KG became Robinson-esque on defense after he joined the Celtics and took a lesser role on offense. David did not have this luxury until his last year in the league when TD supplanted him on O. Is KG even the best post defensive player of this era? I would have a hard time picking him over Dwight Howard.
I'm not going to put him in the top 5.... But Ben Wallace was an amazing defender in his prime. Also, only him and Mutumbo won DPOY 4x
5 most effective (center is most effective defensive position) 1. Bill Rusell 2. Hakeem Olajuwon 3. Ben Wallace 4. Dikembe Mutombo 5. Gary Payton LOL at Scottie Quitten! He should go into the Rockets hall of shame! I still can't get over his falling down and turning the ball over in a win or go home playoff game in the last 20 seconds. Worst Rocket player ever by far!
Walt Frazier is at the top of the list for guards. Go ask Oscar Robertson, Jerry West, and Earl Monroe what they have to say about him.
No way the worm is not on that list. My top 5 with no particular order: Hakeem, Deke, Russell, Rodman, Payton
That is true. As was Bill Hanzlik and Jerry Sloan in a bygone era. However, none of those guys are top 5. Probably top 20 though.
Former Rockets draftee Bobby Jones was 2-time first-team defense in the ABA and 8-time first-team defense in the NBA.
Rodman has to be there at the top 2× NBA Defensive Player of the Year (1990–1991) 2× NBA All-Star (1990, 1992) 2× All-NBA Third Team (1992, 1995) 7× All-Defensive First Team (1989–1993, 1995–1996) All-Defensive Second Team (1994) 7× NBA rebounding champion (1992–1998) Inducted to the hall of fame It is not common for defensive specialist get invited to an all star game or get to the hall of fame. This can only mean that his defensive presence was so great that it more than makes up for his offensive liability. He also has the ability to guard all 5 positions.
Dream GP Rodman Quitten Jordan Some opponents might score in the 40's if those five were on the same team and pissed. Most overrated defender of all time -Kobe
Yeah, he's so underrated. He's the one who really started on ball pressure and stealing in the NBA. I really have no idea what you're trying to say here. Man, you're just hating on the Spurs for no reason. If you look at a list which compares what players played on defenses that were the best compared to the other defenses it is filled with Celtics and Spurs. If you look at Duncan's advanced stats like RAPM from 2001-2012, Duncan doesn't fall out of the top 7 IN THE ENTIRE 12 YEAR SPAN (side note - RAPM really really loves Ben Wallace's defense). The Fo Fo Fo 76ers as a better defense than early 2000s Spurs.... And this calling someone a Spurs fan just because they actually look at other teams is quite hilarious.
I feel like cheating here  pg - lebron sg - pippen sf - hakeem pf - kg c - russell I'll explain it in a bit, along with adding backups/modifying. Still not sure about using the 6'9 russell if we are talking about the modern game.
I'll pick guys that maybe don't make the top 5 but some of the best defenders that get overlooked. 1. Vernon Maxwell. The guy was just crazy enough to stand toe to toe with Michael Jordan. 2. Dennis Johnson. 3. Michael Cooper. 4. Rick Mahorn 5. John Starks
