I dont mean to suggest that the Rockets should be favored in some or any of their matchups in the first round, but I get the sense that how we do will be contingent much more upon how we are playing rather who we are playing. Aka. The ball is in our court. When we're on, almost no one can stop us. When we're not, well then quick exit is in order. Thats what you get with such a young team with as much ralent as we have. Now I'm not THAT big a homer. If we face OKC a bloodbath will ensue. I think most of us can agree on that. But anyone else? The Clippers? Even San Antonio? I'm not so sure. Yes calls will be harder to come by. But I dont fear those teams at all. Against SA we would have the best player on the floor. And Blake Griffin is the most overrated player in the NBA right now in my opinion. So what say you? Who do you fear?
The Spurs - too much experience and superior execution The Thunder - way too much talent The Nuggets - a menacing frontcourt rotation that now has playoff experience from last season Outside of that, the Rockets would put up a good fight.
Nice jinx thread. I think the Thunder would crush the Rockets and I don't think the Rockets would stand a chance against the Spurs either. Nuggets and Clippers are beatable, but this Chris Paul guy is pretty good. Wouldn't get too excited about playing him.
It's hard to see a scenario where we play the Nuggets. Could they get up as high as #4 now that Memphis has unloaded Gay and Speights? It's possible. But I don't see the Rockets being consistent enough to fight their way to #5 either. With every hot run a cold spell will be on the horizon for this team. I just hope we hit the playoffs on a hot run. Because watch out, I think we just might get to the second round.

I like to think of these as reverse jinx threads, because there have only been two recorded incidents of anybody ever being right about something on the internet, and one of those incidents was when Karl Smithfield of Boswell, Indiana wrote that "Nachos are delicious!" (They are.) So we should probably hold off our judgments, that ephemeral internet personalities have that sort of influence over reality.
The problem with Denver, aside from their being a great team, is that they'd probably finish with a better record than Houston in this scenario. Which means they'd have homecourt advantage. Which is a bigger deal for the Nuggets than it is for those other two teams. The altitude in Denver and the hostility of that home crowd are very, very real things.
spurs and okc. the rockets have to move up to seven and the clippers to no.2. and that clippers bench is no joke, so basically the top three seeds i fear, but out of those 3, i'd take my chances with l.a
okc is a bad matchup bring on the nuggets! anyone think that if we were in the east we'd be the second best team?
I fear OKC. I would love to see a Houston Spurs first round series. We would get our ass whopped but it would be a fun series to watch & good experience for the young guys.
It's what we SHOULD have seen last season, but instead an awful Jazz team turned into the last minute 8th seed so they could get facerocked by the Spurs and put up way less of a fight than the Rockets or Suns might have provided. Am I bitter? Nope. Okay maybe a little. Okay maybe more than a little. Then again, who would the Rockets be getting that valuable playoff experience FOR last season, who is still on the roster today? Chandler Parsons I guess? So maybe it's not such an important thing after all. This is a clean slate situation.
I completely agree with the OP. I fear OKC in the first rd. Honestly I think we can beat the spurs, and the clips. We played them both tight so far, but not okc. We can only get better and unless a trade happens spurs and clippers are staying the same. A lot mention the nuggets but we aren't playing them in the first Rd, and I think they are overrated just like the warriors. Only team I would hate to play is okc other than that, let's roll!
LOL no worries. But yes a HOU Spurs first round would be crazy fun. And also, Manu & Duncan haven't been perfect models of health so you never know what could happen. We will still likely get our asses rocked but whatever.
