I think the Rockets have one of the best offensive systems in the NBA

In all my years of watching the Rockets, I have never seen an offensive system as good as this year's since the last big championship push with Barkley/Hakeem/Drexler under Rudy. Ever since then, there has been talk each year about players not fitting the system, the system needing better player, etc. But our current offense is such a tailor fit for this roster, that it's surprising the main piece to the offense, Harden, didn't even have preseason with us.

I mean, we push the pace. Which takes advantage of our youth, athleticism, multiple ball-handlers(outlet pass to anyone can start a break) while hiding our lack of a post game. We play to space the floor, allowing Lin, Harden, and Parsons to penetrate. We feed the ball to our bigs to keep them happy, whether Asik/Smith on the roll or Patterson/Morris on the perimeter. Every player on this team gets to play to their strengths. Yes, this even includes Lin, who gets as much freedom as any system as to making the decisions. And you see it a lot in transition how well he can push the ball for easy baskets.

While I think one can debate McHale's minutes distribution and subsitution patterns til eternity, you can't deny that our coaching staff have done a wonderful job of creating a system that allows our players to succeed.

Its true, it is great. The only draw back is that with young players like these you are going to have nights where it can look like the worst system in the league and players will be calling for "X's" head.

Mchale isn't the greatest coach but one of the most essential things is being able to motivate your team , and he has done that on multiple occasions. There is too much apathy in this league. If there is anything I have a problem with, it is that. Sure it is a job and payday for these guys, but you have to make it something more.

..And sorry to detract from your original points, I agree with them.

Can people please explain to me what happened during that 7 game loosing stretch when we were shooting 30% and barely putting up 80 points per game. Was it a result of shots not falling in leading to heroball, or bad spacing/pace leading to bad shots leading to heroball, or just plain heroball?

And when I say heroball I mean running into 3 defenders leading to a turnover despite teammates being open, not just taking more control because you got hot that given night.

Big issue I have with this run and gun style is it's not a good formula for the playoffs when the game slows down. It's pleasing and great to watch but not having a half court option or post scorer is still an issue.

We had a brutal schedule in January, and young teams can go on bad stretches. Nothing new.

playing two sets of 4 games in 5 nights while playing at the league's fastest pace can tire out even the youngest legs. Plus, most of the starters weren't used to such heavy minutes.

Even considering that, they pretty much fought in each of those games and weren't 'bad' losses except for maybe 2.

Judging from post game/shootaround pressers with players and coaches. Seemed like they weren't getting everyone involved on offense.

Still think Kevin Garnett could be the perfect addition. Not only to help posting up in the half court offense (crucial to have that guy in the playoffs) he can also split minutes with Asik (keeping them both fresh for the playoffs). Also tremendous leadership and toughness. Send Boston Beverley, Smith and White/Jones

I don't really understand it when people say this. Are you implying that if we play the slow-down, Memphis style of basketball, that we are more likely to win in the playoffs than we do now?

Or that even if we add Lebron James to this roster, as long as we play this way, we still can't win even with the two best James in the NBA?

maybe, but if they did play the type of basketball better known, you and I both know they would be losing far more games. They are an extremely young team with a bunch of holes that are masked when they play like this. Play the "championship" style ball and they are going to be losing night in and out. Most teams that play the type of ball you are referring to have some sort of good post presence that you can rely on and give you consistency.

In the playoffs teams will key in on certain parts of our offense to stop it from flowing so fast and freely by doing little things like ball denial at key parts of a set etc. We need more variety in our sets for the half court offense for when the playoffs arrive, but first we need an established low post threat to run the offense through. Dunno if that will come internally because it looks like we won't be getting it externally before then.

I think a simpler explanation would be, in the playoffs we'll be facing Duncan/Parker/Ginobilli/deeper bench, CP3/Griffin/deeper bench, or Durant/Westbrook/Ibaka/KMart. And their talent >>>>>>>>>> our talent.

Our best shot is against the clips. Just somehow slow cp3 down and you screw over their offense. Although that's impossible. Still, less impossible than stopping parker/duncan/ginobilli or westbrook/durantula. Wish we could be playing memphis..they ez

offense looks good when the threes are dropping

as Lin gets more consistent from three, and Asik continues to improve his hands...

    watch out!

I hate to sound like a weird guy, but Royce White would be great for this system as well with abilities as a point forward and low post presence.

Our offensive system is live by the three die by the three. That's it.

Kevin McHale should clearly be in the coach of the year discussion and its not even debatable.

The thing that surprise me is the amount of steals and deflection that the team gets that leads to fast break points.

But for the team to continue growing and take the next step as contender, will be improving their defense.

No. We also lead the league in drives per game. The 3's are a result of teams collapsing on Lin or Harden.
