I think its very difficult to lay the book on Mchale and call him a scrub with just half a season with a new young and inexperienced players in his team. Remember, most of the players on this team were from different teams last year, it takes time to grab a full understanding with players strengths and weaknesses. I'll judge him instead on the improvements he has done so far to the team as well as his understanding with the players strengths. I think he has done an ok job. With the current better than expected W/L record, you have to give some credit to the coaching staff and more importantly the potential talent this team has. We will see by the end of the season if McHail is the right coach to make this team reach there full potential.
good comment...btw perhaps the substitution patterns have something to do with holding off and hiding some cards for the playoffs
Yes, I've noticed some adjustments (ie: I've seen more mid-range jumpers and not just 3 pointers & more PNRs than earlier this season). Maybe McHale is still learning how to coach our team. Hope he can put the Rockets in the best position to win as he learns the strengths & weaknesses of the players. We will see if he can continue to improve and make adjustments to help the team make the playoffs. As for next season, I just hope Morey & Les can carefully evaluate in the offseason whether McHale stays or not. If I'm in Morey's or Les' position, I would try to find another coach for next season unless McHale can demonstrate consistently for the rest of the season that he's making the right decisions to develop our players and put them in the best position to win.
McHale is not just a good coach but a brilliant one. I mean who would sit his starting PG the last 12 minutes of the game and play someone who had been playing in Russia, had about 20 minutes of NBA experience and had never practiced with the team? And we won - absolute genius!
I was just being sarcastic - it was a terrible coaching decision and he was lucky we won. He did it again tonight - Lin was playing well but Beverly stayed in for too long in the 2nd Q and got burned by Lillard 3 times in a row. If that didn't happen I don't think Lin would have gotten in the rest of the half. Same crap in the second half. Now I know I'm going to get a lot of flack by complaining about McHale on the night of a big win but you have to wonder what he is doing to the psyche of someone who we are going to need playing at their top level in the playoffs. Patterson also was playing quite well and only played around 25 minutes (26 for Lin). We need a coach who is consistent and rewards his players for hustle and good play not one who takes you out of the game regardless of how good you are playing.
B!tch all you want. You have NO knowledge about coaching in the NBA. You just have your "eye test" which we all know is completely unreliable. McHale has had his assistant coaches hand picked by Morey. The Rockets assistant coaches are well respected around the league. Expect McHale to be gone when Morey leaves. Coaching has much less effect on the W/L record of a team than you would ever imagine. There are a number of criteria to judge a coach by, and perhaps the most important one is the simple question "Is the team getting constantly better?" Until you have salient points on that topic, you really are p!ssing into the wind.
LOL that might be a record. 30 days and 215 posts to a ban. Is there stats on the subject? Can I compete? j/k
So you have knowledge about coaching in the NBA? Who did you coach for? So you are telling me that playing your 3rd string point guard who has practically no NBA experience almost as much as your starting PG is good coaching? Your bias is showing with this lack of objectivity and coaching "knowledge".
Why would I be banned for simply giving my opinion? Just because it disagrees with yours? I don't think that will happen and if it does then posting here is not worth it - the "doubters" can just all delude themselves that only their opinon is correct.
you trolled the game thread hard core a couple of games ago. I remember your bar was completely red and it said you were a rookie for a brief period.
To be honest I'm always worried about overplaying Harden and Asik. I'm happy when he sits Lin and not because I don't like Lin, I do. I think Lin needs the rest, especially since he had a knee injury last season. We have a decent bench and I don't see the problem of Lin sitting. Also, Lliard scores on everyone. He is more impressive to me than anyone besides Davis in that draft. I was day dreaming during the game earlier that we had drafted him. He is going to be a legit star in the league if he stays healthy. Reminds me of D-wade sometimes.
I just enjoy watching Lin play because he promotes teamwork by being unselfish. He's also the team's starting PG but when taken out doesn't get put back in unless the team starts losing or his backup is playing terrible. It's just weird - that's all.
I saw no signs McHale was punishing Lin tonight. More likely, with the big lead, he was giving him a chance to heal from the rolled ankles in recent practice. We'll see in the next couple of games, especially Tuesday which should be competitive.
So Mchale still dislikes Lin and punishes him when he plays well? While we're pushing dumb theories around as if they're true...here's another one to add: The same "LOF", center of the universe/over-defensive/favoritism we experience by some here on CF, Mchale is experiencing in real life from "Lin only" fans and reporters, on top of that, all the hateful comments he and the Rockets FO gets on facebook or twitter. And the same way we feel the need to keep some of his overzealous fans' egos in check, Mchale's either conscious or subconscious defensive reaction is to check Lin on the court and to downplay him in interviews. Any unfair treatment against Lin was a response to unfair treatment towards Lin and against all his other teammates and coaching. So... this is allllll your fault Steal&Deal! Sorry to break the bad news to you! Not that I believe any of this crap, (which btw makes even more sense than the equally idiotic "Mchale is racist and wants Lin to fail"). I'm jus pourin some gas on the fire for these theories to roll around in. By the end of the year, some of yall will be thankful to Mchale broadening Lin's game and allowing him to strengthen his weaknesses.
I certainly don't believe McHale is racist or there is any "conspiracy" going on. I do think however that for some reason he is minimizing Lin's court time even when he is playing well - like yesterday. It's been going on all season and has been remarked on by many Clutch fans. Surely you can't deny this obvious fact. What is your theory on why McHale is doing this?
