Congrats to Clutch and Bima! Rockets organization is finally listening to fans, and you do represent the fans quite proudly. Thank you for allowing us to go on the ride with you.
Wow, are YOU late to the party on that one! I assume you have not listened to any of the podcasts that Clutch and I have done. If you had, there is no way in hell you wouldn't have presumed my whiteness.
Need to bump this one to make sure we educate as much fans as we can regarding the direction that this franchise is and should be in. There are quite a few who are only interested in trade threads and never even read or watch this one.
Clutch and Bima, hope you fellas would come out with a new podcast episode regarding our cap related issues soon. We need to create an awareness with all of our fans.
It's baffling how some of our fans think it's now or never regarding the future of this team. Someone even posted that if we don't use our cap space now, we won't have a chance to use it again. So he want to use it on Josh Smith now. Bima, everyone trusts you here. Please start a thread and educate our other fellow fans.
why is there a youtube related video called 'farting in public' connected to this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=csmf5DmrgLE i need answers, bima!
Bima, what's the easiest way to tell how much tax a team will pay if they don't shed salary before the deadline. Another related question. If a team is above the cap ($58.044 million) but below the luxury tax threshold ($70.307 million), what are the consequences to that team? Coon's FAQ was confusing on this point.
A worthy breakdown prior to trade deadline would be calculating the top teams with incentive to reduce tax payroll before end of season and how rox could benefit from them
For this season, use shamsports to find teams salary. Take 70.307 million and minus salary. That is tax payment. If below zero, not taxed. Consequence of being over cap, but under luxury tax is that you can only sign players to minimum contracts or use salary cap exceptions like MLE.
Right now, there are few teams over the tax line: Lakers, Celtics, Bulls and Warrior and that's it as far as I know.
Great work Bima! I was late to listen to this podcast. Saturday is a better time for me to listen to 1hr podcasts I was thinking exactly about Sammy D recently when I was looking up all the NBA teams for a good defensive/rebounding center that could play 15 minutes behind Asik every night. Not that I don't like Greg Smith (has a lot of potential), but the Rockets game right now is evolved around having a center that can really grab defensive rebounds and be a good anchor inside, so that we can send 4 guys running up court and push the pace and play stretch 4s that aren't great rebounders. We are so bad without Asik that the back-up center spot is probably the key position to shore up to improve our play-off push chances. While Dalembert isn't exactly great there, he's a big upgrade on Greg Smith defensively and rebounding-wise (at this stage of Smith's career), he fits into our cap room this year and expires at season-end so he won't impact our max cap room in the off-season, he's averaging 12.4reb and 3.2blks per 36min this season, he'll definitely help us in the play-off push, and in the event that we cannot get Dwight Howard and we need an upgrade at back-up center, we can potentially sign him for a 2yr $5M/yr contract with the second season partially guaranteed much like we signed him for before. In that scenario, either we could split the $15M cap room into a Millsap at $10M/yr + Dalembert at $5M/yr (fill our two weakest and most impactful spots - PF and back-up center), or just keep our cap room, play Dalembert, and trade him before the start of the second year of his contract and open up the same cap room again. I think Morey wants to make a playoff push, as Bima said. And rightly so. A playoff appearance and good showing will be important to attract star free agents. Only issue with Dalembert is whether the Rockets really want him back. I kind of remember Dalembert had sort of checked out of the Rockets by the second half of last season and didn't seemed welcome back (although it wasn't a big issue).
