I would go crazy for Anderson but Thompson meets the lesser known bit.

I think it's either Jason Thompson or Anthony Randolph. I dont know why Morey would want either of them, but I highly trust Morey.

Ryan Anderson fits the bill of a Morey-esque player.

High TS%, makes free throws, can hit threes.

    Reasonable salary too.

But he's far from underutilized. He's playing a lot of minutes and doing his role well.

Anderson would be nice, I like J.J. Hickson.

J.J.'s quietly having his best year this season, good PF that can rebound but not really much of a defender more offense than anything.

It's gotta be Jason Thompson. This guy can be a beast and has shown flashes earlier in his career of being a legit post option. I've always thought he was vastly underutilized in Sac Town. That's a team that is chronically losing. Chronic as in they are dead in Sacramento and going to Seattle.

With Mchale, I think Thompson would be an awesome pickup as long as you pay the price of his current value and not hi potential value.

He could be like Z-Bo, a late bloomer. Except Z was REALLY good even early in his career. That crucial 3rd year (the make it or break it year for many players) has passed Thompson and he still hasn't really become the beast he can be. Hopefully he ends up like JJ Hickson. Out of no where big contribution.

Jason Thompson would make sense except for his contract. He just signed a 30 million for 5 year contract this past off-season.

He was underutilized from his Orlando days and Bass too, they literally rotted on the bench. SVG was a dumbass trying to develop reddick for the longest.

But dosen't Thompson play the back up center position behind Cousins? Who would fill that role if he was traded here? Chuckwagon?

Thompson fits the bill of what Codman was saying as well. He makes about an average of $6 mil each of the next 4 years. That's a very cap-friendly salary.

Codman also said that his "friend" plays on a habitual loosing team. Again, Sac-town fits that description to a tee.

Lastly, Thompson is a 6'11" PF who is highly productive. Per 36 minutes he averages 14 points and 9.5 rebounds. He's an average defender, but he's got the size to slide over and play some center when Asik needs a rest. Thomas Robinson is the future at the 4 for Sac-town, so i makes sense they would be looking to move Thompson (who is signed 4 more years after this year).

the question is, what would committing $6 mil over the next 4 years to Thompson do to our cap flexibility? Would it preclude us from signing a max player this offseason?

It might ...in which case i don't see it happening. But if Morey can free up some space, by lets say not keeping TD and Delfino, or by trading an asset for a future draft pick, we might be able to make enough space to bring in Thompson and still sign a max player. if that's the case, it seems like it would be a good move; however, i can't claim to be the expert on Thompson. I've only seen him play in limited fashion.

does anyone else have a good handle on Thompson's game?

This isnt what he is talking about...Thompson is not needed...we have aldrich, smith and asik.... itd be wiser to get Sammy D and a pick for taking his salary if we just needed a back up big...

you guys are wasting brain power on insignificant possibilities.

If this is a trade it is about
    Josh Smith
    Love
    Anderson
    Gortat
Garnett....or someone like that...that would be a significant upgrade

In a nut shell he has great size as you said, good inside game(inconsistent at times), average rebounder, no outside game, and a below average free throw shooter. I think he would be a great bench player ie back up for 4 and 5 but other than that, not much to see here. HE O.K.

I will say this though, I would think the trade would be multiple players involved because his salary does not match our team salaries well for a one player swap. I don't think Morey wants to use cap space on him.

the more i think about it, J.J. Hickson might actually be a better fit. PF. Much better rebounder; a double-double machine. Much higher PER. Much friendlier salary ($4 mil for one year; expiring). Can slide over and play center. Picked 19th in the 2008 draft. Portland has their future center and they have Aldridge at the PF. They'll likely be be loath to offer Hickson the money he'll command. He's def. a Morey-type player. He'd compliment Pat extremely well too because he's more of an inside presence. He's a decent defender.

only problem is what Codman said about his friend being on a habitual losing team, and Portland doesn't fit that description as well as Sac-town does.

If you do that trade you lose 2.4 mil in cap space by trading Aldrich for Thompson and we want all of our cap space for a max player.

Hickson is much friendlier plus if he does not fit in this year he gives you 4 mil more to your cap space if you let him walk. Morris and Patterson salaries match his within 2k dollars.

So $6mill per year for a legit 6'11 250lb PF who can play C; who can shoot from the outside and does a good job on the glass and is a pretty good defender.

    Where do we sign up?

In 27 mpg in his career, he's 10.5ppg and 7.1rpg. That's like 14/9 in starter minutes isn't it? I imagine he'd flourish under the tutelage of CD/McHale et al.
