My comment was more tongue-in-cheek than anything, but Young had a -1.4 WAR (according to FanGraphs) and Hamilton a 4.4. It wouldn't be that outlandish to assume Berkman could deliver a 3.0 if healthy (his WAR was 4.9 in 2011). But I was mostly joking.

Bedard is a good pick up, low risk high reward.

If hes healthy, hes still a good pitcher in the league but thats a BIG if.

Houston's best case is having Bedard start and pitch well so they can get some value at the trade deadline.

So when are the Astros calling dibs on Reid Brignac now that he's been DFA'ed by Tampa?

why? The dude can't hit. We have plenty of decent gloves that can't hit with more years ahead of them (and don't have space on the 40 for him without a move)

    From rotoworld

Makes sense given the glut of fringe SP's we have now. I know we've said it a bunch, but it's interesting to hear it today after the other deal has gone through

No point in signing him. Don't see him as appreciably better than Elmore or Gonzalez. I definitely prefer Greene as a bench player over Brignac.

I think the point in signing him would be simple . . .he won't cost much in the way of money, and if he plays well for half a season he is yet another trade piece . .as Morey would say "an asset"

but he's not good enough to play well and be an asset. No one will want him at the deadline

Greene/Elmore/Gonzalez are all just as likely to be assets. If you sign him, you have to cut someone. For him to get playing time, it has to come at the expense of someone else.

If we didn't have those guys, or if Brignac was an improvement over those guys, I'd be all for it, but that isn't the case.

Maybe, but who knows what all is in the works, maybe one of those guys is gonna be packaged with Bud in a deal. I'm not saying let's go after Brignac full force, just saying it will not cost much at all, so no real harm.
