There's always the MLB At Bat subscription/app. Off the top of my head I remember it being affordable and it allows you to listen to all 30 teams radio broadcasts.

Once the season starts I am sure the astros will make sure comcast has a deal.

enjoyed this app greatly last season and will be doing it again. Caught some Vin Scully a couple times even; that was a treat.

Vin is about the ONLY reason I still buy the MLB Package on TV. Nothing better than listening to him call a late game.

Philosophically, parent company does not want any of it's news stations carrying sports teams. So I don't envision it going back any time soon. The Astros are cutting corners everywhere to make up for what they expect to be a major shortfall at the gate. It's one of the reasons the radio job has not been filled yet. They are offering an extremely below market salary.

It's going to happen. For 7PM starts, it won't be so bad because they will only have to duck out a half hour (or maybe an hour) early or so.

The 6PM starts on the east coast will be different, though. They'll have to sign off significantly earlier than normal on those nights.

Assuming the Rangers are on one of three big DFW stations, I will be able to pick a team that plays it home game more than 200 miles away better than the team that plays 25 miles away. Kind of a personal moot point since I am done as a baseball fan, though perhaps I might follow an NL team just out of curiosity. Are the Reds on WLW?

Depends on your local affiliate. In Austin, 1300 is contractually obligated to broadcast more UT events than the Longhorn Network. It's the only good thing about the increase in number of west coast games. Less things to get in the way of those 9 pm starts.

It might be my imagination, but 790's signal drops WAY off after 6pm. I can't even listen in Kingwood between 6pm and 6am. Same for 700 and 1560. After 6pm, the only AM stations I can pick up in Kingwood are the big 3 - 610, 740 and 950.

So now I guess I can't watch on TV (since CSN Houston isn't available to 60% of Houston) or radio (since most games start after 6pm).

Do the Astros even want me as a fan?

It sounds like the decision for them to be on 740 wasn't solely the Astros decision....according to MattJ, 740 wouldn't have them.

How are they going to juggle Astros/Rockets? Who gets priority and where does the "loser" land?

Rockets having 1st priority may mean that we could still hear Astros games on 740 depending on whether the Rockets are in the playoffs.

Of course, the Astros could have made it worthwhile to KTRH to broadcast the games. Obviously they are not spending any money on payroll for the foreseeable future.

Alot of y'all must have some really cheap radios. I have absolutely no problem getting 790 clearly at night in my truck as far west as Sealy and as far east as Baytown.

With no alternative landing spot for the Astros? So there could be nights this spring in which non-Comcast subscribers won't have access to an Astro broadcast? Wow... seems unfathomable in this day and age.....

There is 950. There is sunny 99 and 94.5 they could broadcast it on.
Love it when the rockets is on 99.1
