substitute "Jew" with "Jewish People" when it comes out of your mouth. it's as insensitive as it would be to constantly refer to black people as "negros" when it spills from the lips of a bigot.

So if I said "Jewish person" with a conscience it would be ok?

Hey I must admit calling a person a Jew is not an epithet to me.

If you were against racism and apartheid in South Africa, you should be against racism and apartheid in Israel.

Great post - indeed, I was trying to point out the same thing with my rhetorical question.

One just needs to look at who is applauding him here - adeelsiddiqui, Hydhypedplaya and Kwame, who are some of the worst extremists on this board.

Just imagine if I had started a thread "A Muslim with a conscience" - which I would never do - the outrage would be huge, and rightly so.

The thread title is so telling about glynch's bigotry and bias.

Also, great post by bongman about his personal experience in Israel - which does not reflect at all what glynch wants to hear from his anti-semitic leftist propaganda blogs.

Didn't you just read cardpires post? It's offensive to say Jew. Say the full word. Jewish's.

Well I have checked this out with my wife, non-Jewish FWIW, I was unaware of the distinction. You learn something every day. I am sorry that I used the J word that way.

That being said, the treatment of Palestinians in Israel is Apartheid like and will not hold. Those who defend or excuse this situation are not helping Israel or the Jewish people in general.

Again Deji thanks for your great post. I agree that a single state solution seems like the most unlikely option right now. My own opinion is that a two state solution based very closely on the 1967 borders with Palestinians able to control their own, economic, security and resources is the best solution. A single state solution may be possible in the future but it doesn't seem like either population would accept it right now.

The thread title is worded very insensitively, which takes away from the argument in the post. For the record, I went to a school with a 20%+ Jewish population (with many, many Jewish close friends), and I never got the idea that the term "Jew" was on par with a racial slur. Perhaps a bit crass, but the term was used very frequently in non-offensive ways.

My impression of the term "Jew" is that it is like "Negro" or "Oriental". Out dated terms that were once considerable acceptable but not now because of their association with times when bigotry was rampant.

Negro and Oriental are offensive but "Jew" hardly. These people are the most successful group in the world and I think Ashkenazis are just a religious offiliation. "Jew" is about as offensive as "a Buddha", "Hindi", or "Muslim".

The OP has a Jews are homogenous mindset. I know for a fact the average Ashkenazi doesn't think much or support Israel. What comprises as an "Israeli" are a many Palestinian converts that intermingled and converted with a mindset of "if you can't beat em join" over the past 50 - 60 years. I guess Israelis have become too semetic genetically for the White Ashkenazi mindset.. Who gives a fawk right?

I don't believe two state solution is the most just solution. I am really not in favor of colonialism and states that privilege one religion over the others. However if it is actually true that the Palestinians, who exist either as second class citizens of Israel or who have been occupied for decades and who were ethnically cleansed off their lands want t , than, who am I to say no. I would like to see data that is what they want.

To get a two state solution is going to involve lliterally crushing the will of many of the 500,00 Israeli settlers and also Netanyahu and many of his followers. This is no easy task. Perhaps a strong BDS campaign along with withdrawing the support from Sugar Daddy USA can accomplish this.

I doubt the Palestinians will never be satisfied with the rump little unconnected states, deprived of most of the water rights in the pre 1967 borders. This is the state, if any, planned by Netanyahu and his supporters who are either the majority or near majority of Israelis. This is essentially the state supported by all those who don't support some sort of active heavy duty pressuring of Israel involving BDS or cutting off aid from their patron the USA. You can't just support or emain inactive wrt to the status quo of building settlments and grabbing more land if you want the two state solution.

Interesting, as I have spent more than a little time in Israel and was shocked at the way Muslims were treated, often as dirt. Then again I was an idealistic pro-Israel supporter at the time.

I guess I had a difference experience than you. I communicate with my Israeli workers at least 3 times a week for both work and personal conversations. From most of the folks I speak to, they have more critical views towards Orthodox Jews, Russian immigrants and African Jews. I have never heard anybody comment about Muslims - not once. Just curious, how were you able to determine they were Muslims? There are Arab Christians, Arab Muslims and Arab Jews.
