That's not really true these days. You can get a video card on par (or a little better) than the Orbis GPU for around $200-$250. Just fill out the rest with a decent CPU and RAM (guess around $500 or less), and you have something with similar performance to the Orbis/Durango. Now games on the consoles will still likely look better (due to better efficiency/design/etc.), but that gaming PC should be able to play similar games at similar quality, especially given similar architecture.

And this is if you had to buy the parts today, not 9+ months from now. Now, you probably won't be able to build a box with similar performance and similar heat/energy/size limitations for that price, but most people don't need to worry about that.

More rumors (never heard of this site, and probably BS, but why not?):

edit: (Actually it is fake, see one of my later posts...good stuff)

thb you can play virtually the same things in the same manner on PC. Just buy a hdmi cable and plug that sucker in to your TV, and plug in some usb controllers. Slide a beanbag or a couch infront and you're all set

Yes...but to truly enjoy PC gaming to the extent of which it's intended, you're going to be spending much more money than simply having a console.

Nobody can argue that in terms of quality, PC gaming > console gaming, but that's if and only if you have the proper setup for your PC to properly run the games, which costs much more.

    From RC Cola's link:

If I understand this correctly, it would be a 7" tablet that connects remotely to your XBox and/or cloud allowing you to play your game (using, of course, an XBox controller) where ever you go?

If that is the case, I think there's a good chance I go back to an old job of mine. Overnight work in a single office where I did nothing but eat and watch Netflix. I always thought that if I could just play my XBox, it would be a dream come true. #ambition

Consoles all day for me. It's all about preference, neither is better than the other. They both do the same thing.....play video games.

I wouldn't try to get too hyped about it...yet.

But the "Steambox" that Valve is rumored to put out (well...they've confirmed it, but not to the degree of some speculation) could make PC gaming much easier and cheaper. I don't know how aggressive they'll be with pricing, but I wouldn't be surprised if you could get one in 2014 for around $500 that has hardware comparable to these new consoles. Maybe even less (though with Steam and their holidays sales, the higher cost of entry could be offset by game sales).

I don't know what Valve has planned for the machine. But this might be a great time to try something ambitious with it, especially with the hardware the consoles will have (this would have been much more difficult in the previous two generations).

So those rumors I posted from pocket-lint were made up:
    http://x-surface.tumblr.com/
Somebody made up a bunch of info, sent it to various sites, and looks like some game "journalists" ran with it. Not surprising. Kind of what I figured with most of these rumors.

More leaks from VGLeaks (with Orbis this time)
    http://www.vgleaks.com/world-exclusive-orbis-unveiled/
Some of this doesn't make sense. Blu-ray has a constant read speed (unlike DVD...and what these numbers says). Don't really get the details for the GPU. Sounds like a pretty massive downgrade from a normal 7850 (or 7970m).

The "dual-camera" rumor is back (think some other place started that one...maybe even VGLeaks). Would be surprised if they really only went with one SKU.

edit: Never mind about GPU stuff (thought it was saying 8 ROPs, but it isn't).

Looks like we're about to start getting concrete info on the new consoles. Sony stepping up first on February 20 with PS4 news. WSJ is backing up that report, but it's behind a paywall.

Microsoft responded with "Victory will go not to those who make the most noise, but those who make the most impact". They certainly don't sound ready for their own announcment.

D'oh! I assumed it would be here and didn't read that carefully all the other threads. It makes sense to abandon this now that we have some concrete info coming on them. I don't want to have wade through tons of Microsoft stuff to get the latest on the PS4.

    VGLeaks article on Durango GPU:
    http://www.vgleaks.com/durango-gpu/
Somewhat lengthy (3 pages), so not quoting it here.

Very technical, but basically as expected. A bit weaker than the Orbis GPU, though not sure that will make a huge difference in actual games.

These consoles should be a lot better when it comes to multiplatform games at least. No worries that the version you buy will run like a slideshow and/or be overly compressed (well...unless both versions are like that).

More Edge rumors, this time about Durango (primarily):
    http://www.edge-online.com/news/the...hand-games-50gb-blu-ray-discs-and-new-kinect/
VGLeaks also has some info on the data move engines for Durango:
    http://www.vgleaks.com/world-exclusive-durangos-move-engines/
These basically help Durango get efficient usage of its complex memory system (e.g., transfer data memory without using CPU/GPU resources).

Gaming rumors are always a joke. Just wait until E3.

Some are jokes, some are half-truths, and some are definitely legit.

The specs for both consoles are likely true or pretty close. Multiple "sources" reporting the same thing there (all pretty reputable, and some that rarely post rumors). Also had some devkits and leaked documents with them IIRC. And these specs have been reported, to some degree, for a while (AMD producing the CPU and GPU for both consoles has been known for a while, and even the target specs hinted at).

A lot of the stuff Edge has posted (specifically information exclusive to them, not backed up elsewhere) I think is likely untrue or only partially true. For example, both Sony and MS have explored options to cut out used games, but I don't think they'd go to the extreme mentioned in the article (I'm skeptical they'll even do anything, other than push DD, but we'll see).

Not sure what specific information you guys have problems with, so can't comment much more.

And we don't have to wait until E3 to find out, fortunately. :)

Edge had a follow-up article to the one I posted earlier this morning:
    http://www.edge-online.com/features/risky-business-the-next-xbox-versus-playstation-4/
Still not sure I buy it, though they seem pretty confidant.

So basically Microsoft is making the NextGen PS3 powered by their version of Steam, while Sony is making the next gen XBOX. Ultimately it will probably still come down to the game library they each have and the price points they sell them on.

Any news on what media games'll be? Still sticking to Blu-Ray or going digital delivery or both or possibly streaming?

Needing to be online to use it is ridiculous.
